I have a 2000 C200 Mercedes Elegance automatic. I have noticed rusty water leak from under the steering wheel falling on top of my left foot recently when driving. The radiator sign has come on a few times and I suspect that the water leak is connected to water loss from the radiator.
How can the leak be fixed . Is it a major repair please help?
If it is your rad some rad weld will give you a temporary fix and tell you if the two things are connected. Rad weld is available from halfords or similar DIY car repair places.
If the rusty water you are seeing inside the car is antifreeze (has an oily feel to it) the only way it can leak inside the passenger compartment is through the heater core (big job). If the coolant in your radiator is rusty, the rust can build up at the bottom of the radiator and cause a lack of cooling which may result in overheat or hotter than normal operation. You need to flush the system out and refill with clean coolant. If the stuff dripping on your foot looks more like antifreeze after this, you have the option of adding some cooling system sealer or actually changing the leaking core. (or, blocking it off with a bypass 'till you fix it) If the underdash leak turns out to be water, it could be something simple like a blocked condensation tube that is allowing condensation from the air conditioner to build up inside the heater box (look for a short hose stub on the firewall usually on the passenger side about even with the bottom of the heater inside the car. Unblock it and the drip will disappear!
