Did you replace the fuel pressure regulator?
More Information for STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS PR186 Hard starting can be caused by a failing pressure regulator, and being able to start the car by putting fuel into the intake would be an indicator that you have a fuel delivery problem.

HARD TO START ENGINE DTC P0340 (and P0335)
The engine may be hard or impossible to start and MFI DTC P0335 and possibly P0340 may be stored due to abnormal wear to the camshaft position sensor support. Oil grooves have been added to the camshaft position sensor support to improve lubrication

Locate the fuse box. Facing the engine, the box is located on the the right fender. The fuel pump fuse should be labeled, The fuel pump relay is Incorporated in the FI relay located under right center of dash. It is a metal relay usually bolted to the floor near the ecm. Good luck and hope this helps but first replace the the fuel filter since it's the easiest thing to do.

relay is the problem if it dies in seconds after starting. Mitsubishi will show you exactly were it is if no body else does. Sorry I do not work on this model although all cars have a fuel pump relay and operates the same way
