Vw passat oil in coolant resovour is oil cooler gone bad vw passat oil in coolant reservoir is oil cooler gone bad My 04 Passat is having issues with oil leaking into the coolant. Took it to the local vw dealer and was told it was the oil cooler. I wanted a second opinion so I transferred it to a German vehicle mechanic which they tested the lines to the oil cooler and found no leaks. And apparently they dont know why it would be leaking. Was told that they needed to work on the head gasket because of it over heating but unsure if that would actually fix the leaking problem??? Please help I really cant afford any of this but I need a direction to go towards at least.
Could be just the OIL COOLER. VW IS CORRECT.
If the oil cooloer fails internely you will have a mix of coolant and oil. In the engine and in the Radiator,
But not to say the other guys were wrong...
Now you can chack another cooler, which is istalled on the transmition, if there is no leaks, last step is to chack the compression of engine and u'll know about blown head gasket. Good luck.
When oil is in the radiator water your head gasket is blown. Have them resurface your head and replace the gasket.
