I have a volkswagen touareg 2005 and the steering wheel doesn't move at all,and cannot turn the car in any direction......the display shows "front gear workshop".what is supposed to be wrong, could you help me with that ,please?thank you
Not being able to turn the steering wheel at all starts at the ignition lock locking the shaft under the steering wheel. Next if that is ok then it indicates a serious problem in the rack and pinion or the flexible joint to the rack/steering box. As this is a safety issue I would put it on a tilt tray and have a accredited steering repair shop investigate the problem. Check the power steering pump drive belt is still intact
SOURCE: x-type gearbox fault , disc failure,
your steering switch probly burnt internally, that is the thing that the turn signal and wiper switch is attched too, the steering wheel needs ot be removed to replace it.

On your steering wheel there is a button bottom right it should look like two squares. That is the menu button. Scroll through the menu settings until Time appears. Push in on the thumb wheel above the menu button to select. After that roll the wheel up or down to adjust the time and press in when finished.

SOURCE: car steering wheel locked; car won't start
If this is a floor shifter or center console shifter there is actually a lock release next to the shifter. Look next to the shifter handle and you should see a small square plug in the console remove the plug and you will see a little white button in it this is the shifter release push it and you can move the shifter.
