2003 Ford Expedition - while driving to school the door ajar light came on as well as the chime. My daughter pulled over and check all the doors - light and chime went off, she started on her way again and the light and chime came on again.
May be a faulty door latch switch, It is attached to the door latch.
There is a switch inside all the doors on the latches you will have to remove door panels to get to the switches but you will have to remove and check switches one door at a time to isolate which one is bad
These vehicles notorious for bad switch in driver door latch spray latch area with elec contact and shut door 10 times should go off if not replace doo latch/switch from ford not a better idea from ford good luck
The switch on the door is going out. however the switch on that vehicle is located within the door latch. It is an easy repair at a shop. It is most likely on the driver's door because that is the most used door in the vehicle. You may also want to check the latch on the rear window because it will tell you the door is open when they are all closed. The switch malfunctioning will also lead to the lights staying on and therfore running down the battery. With a draw off the battery like that and the constant charging the alternator must do, the battery and the alternator will not last as long if you don't fix the problem with the switch.
WD 40 or CRC WHITE LITHIUM GREASE SPRAY in each latch for the truck/car and open and close doors. Repeat and this should solve it.
