It sounds like a crank sensor if the vehicle stalls in any gear or when cold its most likely a crank sensor. located near the bottom of the engine. there almost always behind the balancer pully for the crank shaft

SOURCE: 2001 toyota tundra stalls when put in gear

If the engine stalls abruptly on your Cirrus, as if some one clamped it, then I would suspect that the 'lock-up' function on the torque converter of the transmission is in the lock-up position. That means it is the same as popping the clutch on a conventional transmission car, which cause the same stall. If you can't drive the car, I would call around to several independent transmission shops to find one that is familiar with the Chrysler 41TE transmission and that appears to be honest. Ask if they have a diagnostic readout box to communicate with the transmission control computer. If they do then have the car towed there and let them try a readout. If they get a code 38 or 0740 (depending upon what year model you have there) then that would show that the lock-up is the problem. If you are lucky the problem will be with a solenoid switch or valve in the box on the side of the transmission which can be corrected easily without removing the transmission. Because this possibility (along with about 6 other causes) is worth pursuing, I would want a shop that is not going to talk you into a "rebuild" without first looking into all the possible reasons for the lock-up condition so you aren't "taken for a ride".
So ask friends if they know a good honest shop and check them out as to how well they understand the Chrysler transmission. You may end up at a Chrysler dealer, but insist on their trying all the other possible causes before authorizing removal of the transmission which is a very expensive repair and may not be necessary.

Why does the car stall in my 1996 s10 chevy blazer while running?

A car stalls when the engine receives a sudden massive increase in load (think when you were learning to drive - releasing the clutch too quickly would cause the car to stall by transferring too much friction too quickly from the gearbox to the engine)
If the car only stalls when you are setting out from stationary then better engine/clutch control control is needed, or there is a problem with fuel or clutch. If it is an old car, try putting more choke on when pulling away.
If the car stalls all the time, the general reason is that there is probably either a fuel or an ignition problem causing the engine to cut out. Of course, there could be any number of things wrong with your car if it stalls during normal driving

2004 chevy malibu high rpms and revving all by itself

Have the engine checked for vacuum leaks, that will cause a high idle speed. As a 35 year veteran of auto repair I can tell you that engine flushs are a 100% waste of your hard earned money.

I have a chevy s10 2.2 2003 truck and one day it ran about five miles. then stalled. it started back up idled fine but put it in gear. stalled again. had to get towed home replaced the fuel filter,truck...

When you press on the gas when the truck is running, does it rev up?

Did it die while driving down the road (foot on the accelerator) or when idle? - If so, try cranking it and get your RPMs up to 1500-2000 RPMs and put it in drive (with your other foot on the brake). See if it will continue running if you never take your foot off the gas.

2000 lincoln ls will run high on rpms without kicking into gear...sometimes it will kick in while car is reving in the 2 or 3000 range and it will buck...other times i can be going 60 and it will fall out...

The first thing to check is the fluid level in the transmission. If quite low, look for red leakage on the floor where you park. Suggest you find a quality auto transmission shop to check this out before you require very expensive service. Good luck!

Vortec 4wd 2dr auto trans stalls while drive

you might want to look at your O2 sensors, they can cause the motor to run lean or rich. also you might have an electrical issue that is tripping your ECM. your electronic control module might be faulty. best solution is to get a trouble code reader and find out what your on board computer has stored. from there you can repair and clear the codes.

First start of the day, engine fires up and runs well then stalls

This is a tough one to solve without hearing it myself. There are several things which will make noise, its the stalling that matters. I will give you 4 that can stall a car and make noise.
1.Traction control cutting off airflow to engine.
2.Automatic ride control pump pulling down alternator.
3.A/C pump locking up.
4.Bad Alternator
5.Bad fan clutch or water pump

You should go to Autozone or Oreillys for a free scan of your cars computer.
