Ran out of gas. put 2 gallons of gas in and now won't start

    i have a 2005 s40 volvo it ran out of gas so i put half of gallon started but immediately sputtered out so i went and got gas can put a gallon in still didnt start no problems before this situation what could it be ? do you think it needs more gas or a gas treatment any help is needed

Your fuel filter maybe plug try this website to see if they have your truck listed its www.autozone.com if they do you be able to check on a price and get pictures and diagram too and here is another one www.alldatadiy.com for repair information too.

id bet it didnt have only 1 gallon there.
or did you run it dry again.?
the pump is fuel lubricated and cooled

I have a 2003 Pontiac Montana that ran out of gas, I put 2 gallons in it and now it won't start
Turn the key to run and listen to see if the electric fuel pump is running. If it is, allow it to run for 30 seconds before turning the key to start. This will allow the pump to push enough fuel to the fuel rail so the injectors have something to spray.

Why won't my car stay running after it ran out of gas
Most newer cars are very sensitive to being ran low on gas. The fuel pump is in the tank and relies on fuel to cool it down. Your fuel pump is now probably not pumping the required pressure for the fuel injection system to work properly (or at all).

the fuel pump is cooled by gas so if u run it low alot or {OUT} it can burn it up
keep that tank at 1/4 or u will pay!!!

Most Fords have a fuel reset button. When you ran out of gas you tripped the circuit. Most of the time the button will be on the passenger side by the kick panel. The exact location should be in your owners manual or your local library or auto parts store will have a copy of one for your specific vehicle.

sounds like when you ran out of gas, you clogged your fuel filter. Change your fuel filter and put a little bit more gas in it and she should fire right up. Hope this helps, James Booth. :)

You need to make sure you put in AT LEAST 2 gallons of gas, more if the car is not level. It might take a few cycles of the key to get the fuel line primed again. A full cycle is Off-On-Start. When you turn the key to on, listen for the fuel pump. It should run for a few seconds and then shut off, turn the key to start for a few seconds and then back to off... This will have to be repeated several times. You should be able to hear the fuel pump from the drivers seat. I will be a faint hum or hiss coming from the back seats.

WHEN YOU RUN OUT OF GAS IT WILL CAUSE FUEL PUMP DAMAGE CAUSING IT TO OVERHEAT.CHECK FUEL PRESSURE IT SHOULD BE 41 - 47 PSI. IF NOT REPLACE FUEL FILTER.IF FUEL PRESSURE STILL LOW OR 0 . FUEL PUMP BAD.

Yes. All cars have fuel filters. The most common location is under the chassis by the fuel filler. Look for a little plastic cylinder with a pair of hoses going to it.
