My truck was running a little hot but the heater was blowing cold air. Put a new thermostat in. Now, truck is running at a consistent temperature from the inside temp gauge, but I only get heat when truck is moving. When I stop at a light cold air starts coming out. As soon as I go through the light the heat comes back. Anyone got any ideas.
May a a vacuum or electrical problem that actuates the blend door.

Problem is most likely the water pump.Have seen several of these doing this on the 5.4L. Impeller fins were damaged on the ones that I have seen.

plus one on the cooling fan problem. if it was low on charge then as you slow down, condensor temps and line prressures would raise therefore it would cool at low speed and and not when moving since the incoming air would drop system temp,reducing line pressure and then cusing compressor to cycle. the auxillary cooling fans must be on whenever a/c is on, if not, thats your problem. get this taken care of because if you get stuck in traffic, your engine will overheat also if fans are not running

Your problem is a faulty heater control valve. The design used on these vehicles allows for hot water to flow constantly and compete with the evaporator as there is no blender door. You have to replace the valve and possibly the control head. Meanwhile, you can bypass the valve to have cold air
