Important: All transmitters which are to be recognized by the remote control door lock transmitter (RCDLR) must be programmed in a single programming sequence. If the system is placed in program mode it will erase all previously programmed transmitters upon the receipt of the programming signal from the first transmitter. Up to four transmitters can be programmed. Do not operate or program the transmitters in the vicinity of other vehicles that are in the keyless entry program mode. This prevents the programming of the transmitters to the incorrect vehicle.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Close all of the doors.
Remove the MALL PGM fuse from the fuse block.
Insert the ignition key into the ignition lock cylinder.
Turn the ignition to ACC.
The body control module (BCM) will perform the following in order to identify the type of BCM installed in the vehicle:
?€¢
Flash the seat belt indicator 1, 2, or 3 times.
?€¢
Chime 1, 2, or 3 times.
Turn the ignition to OFF, and then back to ACC within 1 second.
The BCM may begin to chime and flash diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). If the BCM has stored any DTCs, refer to Diagnostic System Check - Body Control System in Body Control System.
Open and then close any vehicle door.
The BCM will chime in order to confirm that the programming mode has been entered.
Press and hold the transmitter LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for approximately 14 seconds.
Important: After approximately 7 seconds the BCM will chime once to confirm that synchronization has been completed. After approximately 14 seconds the BCM will chime a second time to confirm that the programming has been completed.
Repeat the previous step in order to program each additional transmitter.
Remove the ignition key from the ignition lock cylinder.
Install the MALL PGM fuse into the fuse block.
Operate the functions of each transmitter in order to verify correct system operation.
when you turn key to acc pos that is telling the ignition to go into a accessory mode which runs the radio, wipers etc... but it doesnt allow the ignition circuit to run, and the key in most vehicles will not be able to come out, this is a security protection so that you do not leave accessories on that will drain the battery. The ignition key should only be able to be removed in the OFF position.
Disable SIR system. (Refer to
"SIR Disable/Enable Procedure (For Frontal and Curtain Inflators)".
Disconnect
negative battery cable.
Remove lock cylinder bezel from
steering column shroud by carefully prying with thin blade screwdriver.
Remove shroud fasteners and remove steering column upper and
lower shroud panels.
Insert key into ignition lock cylinder and
rotate to RUN position. Then rotate ignition cylinder back to ACC
position.
Depress locking button on side of ignition module assembly with a thin
pick-type tool. Slide lock cylinder assembly from ignition module.
INSTALLATION
IMPORTANT:
Actuator blade within ignition module housing must be in ACC position to
install lock cylinder assembly. If rotated, replace it to ACC position,
using needle nose pliers.
Insert key into ignition lock cylinder and install into ignition
module.
Install steering column upper and lower shrouds and shroud
fasteners.
Install lock cylinder bezel.
Connect
negative battery cable.
Enable the SIR system. (Refer to "SIR

First put it in the run position, On the right side of the ignition switch housing there will be a small hole (2002 Saturn). Put a piece of a coat hanger in the hole. This will allow you to PUSH/PRESS UP up on a spring loaded tab/latch (about 1/2 inch in) to remove the ignition core/cylider. However if you are having trouble, the key is most likely worn excessivly. You will need the key to pull on to get the cylinder out. IF THE KEY will not stay in the cylinder than USE A SCREWDRIVER to lightly pry out the core. If you are having trouble than here are two tips, turn the key slightly back I MEAN SLIGHTLY BACK and try again also if the vehcicle has an automatic transmission remove the shift interlock cable from under the housing this will be a black plastic piece right underneath the cylinder, here the key will probably break the 3 little plastic clips. No worrys... If and when you do this, simply reattach it by wraping a wire tie around it.
Put some pressure on the steering wheel in one direction or the other this may take the pressure off the cylinder itself and allow you to do what is needed...hope this works.
THE PINS IN THE LOCK CYLINDER ARE STICKING, BUY SOME GRAPHITE POWDER LOCK CYLINDER LUBE FROM ANY LOCK SHOP OR HARDWARE STORE, SPRAY IT INTO THE CYLINDER AND WORK THE KEY IN AND OUT OF THE CYLINDER, IF THIS DOESN'T DO IT U WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE IGNITION KEY LOCK CYLINDER.
In the same boat and Saturn just plain sucks. Glad they are shutting their doors. You ignition lock cylinder is bad. Good thing is that its stupid simple to fix bad news is the ignition has to be the ACC position to pull it out. Another real smart move these idiots decided to do. If you have a bad ignition lock you have a 50-50 chance it will seize in the freakin lock position making it impossible to get it to the ACC position. Anyway here is the link to a utude exact video on how to pull it out in 2 minutes to replace if your lucky and can get it to the ACC position. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJ6EJhuaT5s
There is a pin that you have to push in on the bottom of the lock cylinder housing. It is recessed in a hole. You have to turn the key to acc or on to get it to push in.Once you push it in you can pull the key and lock cylinder out.
saturn ion ignition cylinder replaced
