Instruments don't work, key stuck in ignition, doesn't shift correctly

My speedo, tach, gas guage, temp gauge and odometer stopped working. At the same time, my transmission stopped downshifting to low and won't go into overdrive and the key is stuck in the ignition.

Sounds like you need a new car.
With joking aside, the problem with your speedo, tach, gas guage, temp gauge and odometer can probably be one of two things. Check your fuses. If they are fine you may need to replace your cluster panel. I had to have the entire thing changed over my speedo not working right. It was not cheap. You might want to check the relay box under the hood. Does your transmission leak? Check the fuses and relay on it also. Get a new ignition switch and replace the old one if your key is stuck. You can try WD40 on that key but don't expect any miracles. The bearings are likely shot. Sorry I posted all of this bad news. Good luck.

Testimonial: "Thank you! I took it to the GMC dealership. Turned out to be the ignition, or they said a switch in the ignition. I ended up trading it in while I was there. So I did take your advice on a new car as well. Thanks again!"

sounds like the computer has a glitch. you might need to go to the dealer to have the computer trained(reprogrammed) or to see if you need a new one.

SOURCE: tac, speedo and transmission indicator bar stopped working

This trans is computer controled if your gages quit working as well I would start checking fuses and relays. If this doesn't provide a solution let me know and I will get my manual out and go a little deeper.

SOURCE: tranmission and instrument cluster

The speed sensor on your trans sends a signal to the electronics telling it when to shift, this will be where you fault is.

My cars gauges just stopped working last weekend.

Could be a fuse. Have somebody who knows about cars look at the instrument cluster fuse to see if the wire inside is broken.

1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager.........Dashboard instruments quit working and don't light up. Speedo, tach, fuel gauge, temp gauge, and mileage indicators and lights for same stopped working. ABS...

You have some wiring problems shorting out that is coming from the dash board so if you or anyone you know how to use a multimeter to check the wireing harnesses plus check any connectors that might be just very touching the connector of dashboard which means a bad connection to dashboard.

My speedometer,Tach, Gas guage, temp guage, windows all lost.

That smoke came from some wires that shorted and melted. Take the car immediately to a shop and fix the wiring loom, it can burst into flames at any minute now.

HAve a 2003 Chry. Town & Country, 124K. The

Try output sensor for the transmission (it is similar to a vehicle speed sensor), these can control the speedo and shifting. Not sure if it does anything to the rpm guage, but very possible.

Tach and speedometer work intermittenly and sometimes trans doesnt shift until 4500 rpm. vw cabrio 1999 automatic.

Good question! My Cabrio's odometer works only when the outside temps are really cold... that means about freezing temp. My VW repair shop guru guy says that the Cabriolet is notorious for this failing. Since the odometer is driven through a small gearbox via the speedo cable, I suspect the odometer "transmission" is mostly kaput. The tach is also mechanically driven so it also may have a semi-functional cable. The only way to really know is to pull the cable and check it for damage. As far as the trans goes have you tested it for codes?

The gauges have stopped working ? Fuse under dash seems to be OK ?

Behind the dash is what they call a constant voltage regulator. It controls the guages. It's small and located behind the dash near speedo.
