I have a problem with my mitsubishi lancer automatic transamission.

If I am driving the car, the gear automatically shifts from drive to neutral. I have to shift the gear again to drive position to continue driving. This has happened 3 times in the last one month. How to solve this problem? [email protected]

Sorry, this is a 1996 mitsubishi lancer car CK2A model. I had changed the transmission oil and the transmission oil filter about 6 months ago. Dont know the car is having this problem now.

Does it happen when you step down on the gas peddle. When you kick in passing gear?

It happens in the normal running, suppose i am running normal at 80km/hr, and suddenly the gear shifts from drive to neutral, and then i have to shift the gear from neutral to drive again to keep going.

IMHO, danger is if it shifts fron D to N, what if it goes to R?

Sanjay, the gear is slipping and needs to be checked by a good mechanic and fixed to avoid any danger.

Testimonial: "Ok thanks, i will definitely try this. Any idea why the gear would be slipping? would it be easy fix or would need to change either the gear automatic shifter, or would have to change the whole gearbox? Could you also explain what dangers it may cause? Thanks."

SOURCE: operating lancer automatic transmission

Have you Had the transmission fluid checked? It sounds as if the transmission is slipping in these gears which would point to a fault within the bands. To have a problem like this repaired could cost as little as $200 or as much as $1700 depending on how much needs to be done. Was the replacement a second hand transmission? If yes then did you have a warranty period with it? Let me know and I will get back to you as i am about to seek out a manual for this.

Cheers

SOURCE: transmission problem stuck in sport shift mode

I also have a 2009 Outlander Sportronic transmission with a V6 engine.
Bought it this summer ... transmission appeared fine but seemed to automatically slow down the vehicle using the engines compression whenever I let go of the gas pedal.
Now that the cold weather is upon us here in Canada, whenever I accelarate normally (not like a teenager) the transmission takes quite a bit of time to shift into second... If I rev up the engine (quick take off) it seems to help but the shifting of gears is not as smooth as I would expect it (mildly slips and kicks into second)...

The worst is when come to a complete stop ... then the transmission kicks coming down from the higher gears???

I read somewhere that this is because this transmission is a CVT type and is learning my driving habits in order to adjust itself so the vehicle becomes more fuel efficient... Not sure but if the trany is computer controlled then it must be poorly writen program...
I'm taking the car in to the dealer and will write back on the diagnostic they give me ...

Does the shift have to be on neutral to check the transmision fluid on a mitsubishi lancer 2002

Yes! But get someone in the drivers seat to step on the 'Brake' and move gear lever into 'Drive'. Leave in 'Drive' for 10-15 seconds then place into 'Neutral'. While in 'Neutral gear pull the dipstick out and check that the transmission fluid is at max level! Wipe dipstick with rag and repeat to be sure.If low then fill to max level.

2001 mitsubishi eclipse. Automatic transmission

Transmission may be low on transmission fluid or the transmission fluid pump failed. If it's electrical, you can still get it in to gear, but would not shift gears. Good luck and keep me posted, check transmission fluid level and have the transmission line pressure tested. Before that check all your fuses.
