no the engine does not start and when i was driving it what i meant by the pedal dropped was that it was not accelerating and i could step on it but nothing was happening

One part of your narration is vague: "the pedal dropped nothing"
Does the pedal feel as if it's not connected? does the engine start and idle?

Pull a spark plug from one of the plugs and have someone turn the ignition. see if you are getting spark?

OK that's different...First, you will need to check the battery for 12v. (no testing can be done without proper voltage there) Lights working does not tell you this.
You will need to do a code check before replacing any parts. Without testing there are numerous possible causes and it will cost you $$$ to replace all of them before "hitting" on the right solution. (you just found that out by replacing the pump.) There are other individual component tests you can do using a digital volt/ohmeter.
Offhand, the first place I'd check is the crankshaft position sensor. They are notorious for this kind of failure BUT don't replace it till you test it! post back with any questions and results you get. (in other words, we are not finished yet!!)

Check your throtle postition sensor. It monitors what postion the throtle is at and sends that info to the ecm. It will go bad and cause that problem.

check the fuel pump fuse/relay, could be just bad enough to cause an intermittent start/no start. and check fuel pressure, spark and the crank position sensor.

Vehicle dies while driving-no acceleration possible

TRY CHECKING THE WIRE CONNECTORS ON THE PCM WHICH IS LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FIREWALL. IT HAS THREE LARGE MULTI-WIRE CONNECTORS HELD IN PLACE BY THREE BOLTS. WIGGLE THE CONNECTORS WHILE TIGHTENING THE BOLTS CAREFULLY SO AS NOT TO BREAK THE FRAGILE PLASTIC ENDS. HOPE THIS SOLVES THE PROBLEM. KEEP ME POSTED PLEASE. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK
