Question about 2000 Ford Taurus
Sometimes my dash lights won't come on and the tail lights don't work when this happens. Spurting - it's seems to only be an issue if the Radio and Air conditioning are on. We changed all the fuses by the brake pedal, using the info from the owners manual. Am I missing something?
Check the ground wire for the affected circuits , Looking at wiring diagrams to see if these thing's share a common ground point . Most of the time it is a ground circuit problem ,not fuse ( B+ ) supply . Do you know what an automotive electrical wiring diagram is ? Do you know what an how to preform electrical circuit voltage drop testing ? Buy a DVOM an test !

Free wiring diagrams here http://www.bbbind.com/free-tsb Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine size. Looking at wiring diagrams these componets share ground G201 . I would look for that , probably loose .behind the left kick panel .

i have a 2000 focus wagon and had the same problem. It's not the fuse! It's the wiring harness at the point where it leaves the body and goes into the hatch. When the hatch is opened and closed repeatedly after years the wires will break with constant bending. I had to solder together 7 wires and the problem was solved. It's a lot cheaper than replacing the entire wiring harness.

SOURCE: no tail lights or dash lights
It is possible that they are not grounded properly. The ground wire could have become disconnected when replacing the battery or alternator.

SOURCE: tail lights and dash lights
You'll have to read through your owners manual. For some time Auto makers have been putting your taillights on the same fuse as your dash lights as an automatic indicator that they are out. I would read through your owners manual and decided where and what fuse will supply power to the taillights and dash lights. If indeed all fuses in connection with the dash lights are good I would suspect the automatic starter.

SOURCE: No tail, running lights.
The socket for the headlite switch is bad or burned or deterioted due to heat. What happens that there is no good contact. You will have to replace the socket. The socket may not be available from the dealer. What you can do, just like what I did, check your socket design, go to a ford dealer and they have a book with all socket designs and identify the one you have. Get the manufacturer name and part number. With this information, go to Kragen and they will be able to order the socket for you. You will then have to cut the wires and attach the new socket.
