I drove my 88 k2500 to my hunting cabin last week. It drove great all the way there, when we left a half hour later to make the hour trip home the thm700-r4 transmission would not shift out of 1st gear. I checked the fluid level, its good. I checked the shift lever at the transmission and everything was tight and moving freely. I checked the TV cable, it was a little out of adjustment but not much, I readjusted anyway.

I have the same problem also. Hope someone has the answer.
SOURCE: Automatic Transmission shifts late and rough after warm
If it has over 60000 miles it may need a transmission service, which includes a filter and fluid change, fluid may look fine but if filter is clogged and not picking up fluid fast enough when u give it gas the pump spins faster and forces fluid thru to shift, more fluid is needed to shift into higher gear.than to drive

SOURCE: Transmission won't shift!
Does it just not shift up to 3rd or when it shifts to 3rd it is just like neutral?

it has a problem with the second gear drum it cracks and does not fully engauge the n shifts to 3rd ..many honda owners also learn the 8 bucks a quart is the only fluid to pour in a honda..but remember 3 qaurts per drain and fill the tranny holds 7q ....it will take a case to do a drain flush...a high pressure flush will ruin a automatic tranny with alot of miles or metal deposits floating around inside..DRAIN AND FILL 3 QUARTS AT A TIME NO GASKET NEEDED ITS BUILT AND DESIGNED LIKE A MANUAL TRANNY
