Steering Wheel Vibration

Shake in steering wheel. Dealer turned front rotors & switched front tires last week, but problem still there. Steering wheel lightly vibrates(shakes)when going over bumps or uneven road, vehicle speed 40-60 mph. This is felt with foot off of brake pedal. Prior to front Rotors being turned it Vibrated as I was slowing down from Highway to on Ramp, touching the brake in this case made the steering wheel shake badly, this is why the Dealer turned front Rotors,(I mentioned to them it happens when no brake action is involved). On smooth pavement it's not noticed. Jeff from Canada

BS...shaking steering wheel My steering wheel shakes at regardless if I'm at 70 or at 0 mph. GM recalled it a couple years back, but the shaking never stopped. It's like a twitch left or right, sometimes light, sometimes more pronounced. I can't help but describe it as a sensation of magnetic repulsion; like when you put two negative ends of a magnet together. The magnet ends just push enough to get past each other, and none of it is mechanical or grinding. This has been going on about 5 years now for me. It looks just like the post athttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZR62Gjnh1... .

99 ford ranger when turning have a vibration in steering wheel rebuilt front end and still does it brand new tires so it anit that drives fine just when turning has a vibration

Eliminating steering linkages and tires as a possibility, the only things remaining to check are WHEEL BEARINGS (likely culprit on Ford trucks), brake rotors (cheap just to buy new ones and replace while servicing or replacing the wheel bearings), and loose or worn shock absorbers.

Steering wheel vibrating really bad all the sudden

you have an issue with a front tire more than likely. or could be the front rotor. I would bet my last breath its' tire or break/rotor related. Maybe even a wheel bearing but it usually doesn't cause vibration in steering wheel.

Vibration at 70 MPH.

Warped or out-of balance brake rotor? Also keep in mind that loose rear differential trailing arms that allow the rear differential to squirm around can also cause steering wheel shake.

Front wheels and steering wheel shake while driving

If you get a bad vibration in your steering wheel at low speeds without braking it is either a bad tire or a bad rim. If you get a vibration at speeds around 45-50+ and goes away you probably have a balance issue. If the vibration only occurs while braking then your rotors are warped. If low speeds it shakes i'd take it to a shop to check your tires.

I have a 92 ford tempo and i changed the front tires but i still have a vibration in front end but my steering wheel doesnt shake happens in higher speeds

Hello, this could be a bent wheel or a rock lodged in the cooling fins of the rotor. Additionally, when was the last time you had the suspension components checked for tolerance "wear". This can cause just such an issue.
Good Luck,

If this vibration is occurring only when you brake, I would take a look at a sticking caliper piston that is causing brake drag. Hope this helps and best wishes.

When the brakes are applied thereis a vibration , and some noise. IT is not severe unless it becomes necessary to brake really hard in which case it causes the steering wheel to vibrate. It has been to a...

If the brakes are fine, try rotating the wheels.
The tires it self could have a bad belt in it and have a soft spot. Try putting the front tires to the rear and the rear to the front, double check the tire pressure and see if the vibration go's away.
If the vibration is still there then the tires are good and it's the brake rotor or worn steering parts and or needs a wheel alignment. As the front end drops the toe-in changes geometry and may just be out enough to cause the wheels to vibrate.
Good luck and hope this help. I fine the brake rotors inexpensive enough at a parts store that it's better to change them rater then have then turned to a smooth surface again. If your handy try changing the rotors with new one's. Auto Zone has the parts and would give the step by step instructions to do the job.
