When mounting a chevy starter you must shim it down so it wont lock up when the bendix hits the flywheel..if it binds up it will burn up..there are different thicknesses of shims that fit between the block and the starter nose cone..use one or a combination of these to shim down enough that it wont drag..shim too far and it will spin out..I have owned chevys for years and have yet to see one that did not need shimmed down..these shims fit over the mounting bolts on the starter..

STARTER CAN OVER HEAT IF NO COOL DOWN TIME ALLOWED
20 SECONDS MAX ON THEN 30-60 SECONDS TO COOL
IMO IF AFTER MARKET START REPLACE IT, POOR REBUILD

It might be the starter relay and it is also not unheard of to get a bad starter.

i suggest removing the flywheel inspection cover, and rolling the engine over a little bit at a time, checking to make sure that there are no worn or broken teeth. also, make sure there is no lateral movement, which could indicate a broken flexplate. good luck.

You appear to have what is known as a dry joint in the armature commutator bars . When that bar stops under a brush the current is prevented from turning the armature as there is a degration of the circuit. . Repeated clicking of the key eventually gets the armature to move enough to allow the brush to touch on another bar and so the car starts .. It is repairable in an accredited auto electrician shop but be careful of the cost as you will need new brushes and it may get beyond the price of a new starter. Second hand starters from a wreckers if you are sure that they come out of a relatively new engine would be ok but a new starter comes with a warranty . It is your choice . Make sure that all the terminals are shiny clean and tight all the way to the starter as well before you decide

2004 pontiac aztek won't start

I would not think starter , maybe park neutral switch > It's a safety switch that won't let the vehicle start if in gear . If it doesn't start again try an put in into neutral an see if it starts . But to make sure starter is not bad do a starter circuit voltage drop test . Starter Voltage Drop

If it comes to having to buy a starter, I'd recommend a new starter over a used one.

As for the *click* then nothing that's been happening... if the battery is bad, you would hear a *tick-tick-tick-tick-tick* sound. That's the starter solenoid magnetizing and hitting the starter connection. If you hear just one single *click*, I'm guessing you either have a bad starter or a bad connection.

I have a 2004 chevy malibu LT my car is jerking when I do about 30 MPH and it also feel like its pulling a little when i hit gas. But it goes there the gears fine when leaving from a stop light. My check...

Yes it could. But BEFORE you purchase an EGR valve I would look at this video AND read the comments at the bottom of the page.

It may not be the actual EGR valve.
Hope this helps.

Motor wont turn, but lights and radio come on

the starter may be going bad,if you can reach under the car in the front-if there is no plastic covers in the way,hit the starter a couple of times, the brushes may be going bad and the vibration will move the brushes inside the starter enough to work temperarily.if that helps then replace the starter.
