SOURCE: hood latch won't release

This has happened to me several times, this will take two people, but all you need to do is have one person pull the hood release, while person number 2 pushes down on the hood, and then pulls up...that ought to do the trick

SOURCE: Trunk latch on 2002 Civic EX 4-Door won't close

My girlfriend's 2002 Civic LX 4-door had the same problem. Dvanvught is right; the problem lies with the truck latch cable. If you open the lid and look up at the latch, you will see where the cable comes from the release at the fuel door / trunk release lever inside. When that lever is pulled, it pulls a lever on the latch. The problem is that when you release the lever inside, the cable doesn't retract fully, holding the trunk latch in the open position. If you use your key to manually push the lever on the latch that is attached to the cable toward the cable itself (meaning, push the lever in the direction that will push the wire cable back into its housing), you'll likely find that the trunk lid will then latch. You could replace the cable which would be a bit of a pain considering how it's routed or try to work out a way to put in a return spring to keep pressure on the latch lever, automatically pulling the cable back into the housing.

Good luck!

My trunk will not close

There is a possibility that the remote latch cable is stuck (lubrication is gone) . With a screwdriver, NOT the fingers, try to return manually the latch, to its open position (instead of the pull open position). If you push it too far, it will go into locked position, and when you pull down the trunk lid, it wont reach its normal closed position. In that case, pull the latch back open, with the remote lever. Should you manage to close the trunk properly, spray some WD40 or some lubricant on the latch assembly.

My 1990 Honda civic trunk wont close. The latch opens when I turn the key, but does not spring back when I take the key out, therefor causing my trunk not to close...Any Ideas?

Its probably a buildup of lubricant and dust that is making the latch stick and bind.Get some rags and put them around the latch.Get some wd40 and give it a really good spray. The wd40 will help to loosen the dirt etc.Leave it for 10mins and do it again.A toothbrush will help free up the dirt and the latch should work.I hope this helps

My 04 Honda Civic fuel door will not open. Can

You can get to the latch through the trunk. In the trunk, pull the liner away from the area adjacent to the fuel door. You'll see a black cable that goes to the fuel door latch behind a metal frame. Reach in and turn the latch mount 90 degrees to release it from the fuel door frame. Your fuel door will now be open. You will need to repair or replace the cable, but at least you'll be able to fuel up for now.

I tried it over the weekend. It works great.

Fuel tank door release, 2004 Honda Civic

The release cable is sticking or broken. To release the fuel door, open the trunk and pull off the fabric liner on the left side of the trunk. Behind this liner is the fuel door release cable; this cable leads to the fuel door and attaches with a twist-lock connector. It is cylindrical with two tabs. Twist the connector clockwise about 90 degrees and it should pull out, releasing the door.

Just remember, the fuel door will not stay closed until you put the connector back in.
