Timing belt, 2.4L is an interference engine.
I would suggest replacing the water pump when you change the belt.

You may want to have a mechanic do this, not as easy as replacing an accessory belt. But if you decide to do it you will definitley need a timing light, 3 jaw gear puller, a harmonic balance puller and many other tools most people dont have in their garage

SOURCE: timing belt diagram

There should be a diagram on the radiator cover on top. If not the best thing to do is buy a Chilton's manual. That way you could have it for future use. they don't coast that much and you can get one at any parts store.

This engine uses a timing chain not a timing belt, a timing chain never needs to be replaced unless it fails or the engine is being rebuilt

That would be a belt. Unfortunately , it's not an easy one to do either.

When does the timing chain need replacing?

i always recommend it at 150,000 for belts and 230,000 or so for chain. not a big concern for a non interfearance engine, but worth its weight in gold if it saves you a head job.
