I have a 2001 dodge durango. It just had the transmission rebuilt, (1 week ago). Now I am having problems with it starting. It starts fine most of the time but after stopping and going it won't start. When this happens I move the shifter to neutral to try and start it but it won't. Also the shifter does not show it being in neutral and when I put it in park it also does not show that it is in park. The other gears will show but not park or neutral. Could this be caused buy the neutral safety switch. I was told buy the mechanic that the ignition switch was the problem. I replaced it today and that was not the problem. HELP!

Sounds like your neutral safety switch is not installed properly on the transmission or the shifter linkage is out of adjustment

take it back to the shop that just did the transmission rebuild and tell them what the problem is

if nothing else they need to fix the shifter not showing the correct gear

Why my '99 Durango won't start? The battery is fine so far everthing is working but the radio?

Hi Sheila, i'm glad to help. 99 Durango's with thew 5.2 liter engine were good about the Crank Sensors going bad. Now, as I can't say that securily with out diagnosis. If it were my vehicle and knowing what I know about no starts, that is diffinently where I would start. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Sheila.

2001 Dodge ram 4wd transmission

Yes that could be. and the transmission control module is re learing the driving condition. I would give it a 2 week break in period. I would take back to the shop if the condition does not clear up in two weeks. They may have to re adjust the bands inside. This should be free of charge considering the shop warranty the work parts and labor. I would not let the shop tell you this is a different condition from being rebuilt. Checking the bands and adjusting the tranmission is part of a rebuilding processes.

2001 Dodge Durango--Transmission

Only way rpms will flair is if trans has low pressure at any time (and allowing internal clutches to slip) or, if the lock up converter is not remaining engaged). This is not an engine problem. Someone needs to drive this with a scanner attached and monitor systems.Other than an internal problem, could be a shift control module, speed sensor or even a problem with something as seemingly unrelated as a brake light switch.
To protect your rights under any guarantee, keep good records on what is done to correct your problem. In working on your car, your problem becomes the shops problem 'till it's corrected!!!

Dodge Durango Transmission Problem

Code 0753 means Transmission 3-4 shift solenoid or transmission relay circuit problem. The PCM (engine computer) is seeing an incorrect input electrically for the gear or speed it should be seeing. You will need to find a qualified transmission shop to diagnose the problem. Possible causes for the trouble code start with worn/dirty fluid, electrical repairs & transmission overhaul.
