Starting problems i just bought a 1989 sierra, when i went to pick up the truck the guy told me to bring a battery to start the truck.anyway the battery that i brought with me didnt start the truck (AND THE BATTERY WAS FULLY CHARGED).. we ended up jumping the truck with my wifes car ,that didnt work. so finally the guy told us to jump the truck ,with the car and a battery charger and the truck started my dump *** just thought maybe the battery was weak..anyway the nexy day the truck wouldnt start.i took the battery out to charge and instead of charging the battery i put it into my other truck and it started my other truck up..to make a long story short it still doesnt start my gmc truck..when cranking over it sounds like the battery is dead..it will start sometimes but only when it wants

how many miles? have you had the timing checked? is the truck loosing coolant? do you smell any funny smells while trying to start the truck?how do the battery cables look internally? are they green or white inside the insulation if you peel some of it back?

Sounds like the starter is physically loose or going bad and draging.

If the "dead battery" worked in a different vehicle, then you should look at bad connections at the starter or even the starter itself. There is a lock washer used to connect the battery cable to the starter. If this washer has corroded, it can cause what you describe. Moe

I just bought a 1983 GMC high sierra the guy i bought it from said it had been sitting for a couple of years but he came out at least once a month and cranked it anyways i drove the truck before i bought...

It could be bad gas or a clogged fuel filter and maybe a clogged fuel jet in the carburettor.

Start with checking the fuel filter first. If it has dirty fuel in it, it probably clogged the filter and then the jets. That's common in cars and trucks who are left with gas in them and sit for long periods of time.

Hope this helps?

have you checked the glove box light? another way to tell where your short may be is to hook a voltage meter to the battery and notice a drain on the battery with the key off! then start pulling fuses to see when the drain stops and that will narrow down the possibilities of the problem... the drain should be easily located if its killing the battery overnight... help this helps
