I have a 1997 chevy lumina 3.1L, my security lights stays on when i start my car. And sometimes the car turns off when it's been driven for awhile, could the security light be the problem? And if so, how do you turn it off

There may be a problem with your antitheft security system. This will turn off the starter and make it appear to not be functioning properly. Look for a light that says SECURITY when you try to start your car. If you see that light, go to this link for help.

The security system (VATS/PassKey) is having problems, it's typical on those cars/years. It's been a nightmare for us. You can find a great write-up here: http://newrockies.ca , it was the only thing that saved my 94 Park Avenue that has the same security system.
