Question about Mazda 323

I have a 2000 mazda 323 with a manual transmission. i have already change the clutch kit but the gear is still hard to shift

I thought the clutch pressure plate was faulty but even when i change it remain the same

Check the hydraulic clutch operation. This is a clutch master cylinder with a reservoir on the firewall, and a clutch slave cylinder down on the bell housing of the transmission, with a steel tube running from the master to the slave cylinder. When clutch pedal is depressed, hydraulic fluid (brake fluid) is forced from the master to the slave. The slave cylinder should push out a little plunger that contacts the clutch fork lever-pushing it forward to engage the clutch.
Add brake fluid to the reservoir if needed. Watch the plunger on the slave cylinder: if it moves little, or not enough, try bleeding the slave from the bleeder valve. They are bled just like brakes. If bleeding doesn't help, your clutch master or the slave may need replacing. The master cylinder, like a brake master, has internal seals that hold hydraulic pressure, so force can be applied to the plunger on the slave cylinder.

And check the adjustment on the master cylinder.

it seems that the gear bushings have worn out. you need to take your car to a mechanic to have the bushings changed. Also, please check it your car has enough Automatic Transmission Fluid.

The clutch bearing is supposed to have a groove on the inside where it slides on the shaft That groove is supposed to have a heavy grease applied to it to prevent the bearing running dry on the collar it slides on.Regardless of your driving style, that grease is intended to remain there for the life of the clutch, (generally every clutch I have ever replaced still had some remaining lube there unless the bearing itself failed from a material defect which caused it to overheat and cause that grease to then run out of the retaining groove) I'm not there and can't see the old parts, but in my opinion the first clutch may have failed partially because of your lack of skill in using a stick shift vehicle but the second failure obviously is not your fault if the information you have posted is correct.

Check the brake fluid resovoir, on the side there could be a hose coming off it part way down the side sharing the brake fluid to the clutch master cylinder

The transmition is not the problem. The cables that run from the shifter to the transmition are the culpret. I recently rescued my wife from the road when the linkage broke on our VUE. I purchased new connectors and cables from the dealership and replaced them. For those that have the proper knowledge and skill set, you can replace them yourself. Others are better off having it done at a shop. The following is my personal experience and is not meant to be a guide, repair manual or procedure for those who lack formal automotive repair training! The new shifter cables come as a set. The cable with the white housing does not seem to be a problem. The cable with the black housing controls the push forward-pull back and the cable with the white housing controls the side to side movement. I found that the new cable with the black housing had the same sort of stiffness when I pushed and pulled the cable by hand. Then I noticed that the cable end was bent, causing it to bind in the housing. I straightened the end by bending it with my hands untill I felt the least amount of binding or resistance when pushing and pulling it. When I installed it the difference was amazing! I kept the old cable set for emergencies. The only tools you need to replace the cables and couplings are a 7mm socket on a screwdriver handle, a phillips head screwdriver and a pair of needle nose plyers. Remove the center console, (4, 7mm screws) and electrical connections. Then remove the plastic panels around the shifter, (7, phillips head screws and 2 plastic push pins) associated snap together panel fasteners and electrical connections. Pop each cable end off it's shifter joint/ball and push the collar back on each cable housing anchor. Pull the carpet back and push the rubber grommet through the firewall in the passenger footwell. Then pop the cable ends off at the transmition. Pull the old cable set out and reverse the procedure to install the new cables. There is an adjustment of the cable length. This should be done before replacing the plastic panels and center console. The new cable ends that attach to the shifter can be positioned/adjusted. Looking at the old cable pair you will see where the old clips were positioned and can start with that. Then run the shifter through all the gears to make sure they all engage. If you run out of travel on the shifter handle re-position the clips on the cable ends, as needed, to get full gear engagement without running out of travel.

No it shouldn't touch. You might want to check and see if the clutch plate was installed the right way. If clutch plates are installed backwards, this will cause the tongs on the pressure plate to be pushed out further towards the bearing. And will squeal.

the problem may be a faulty clutch master cylinder that has a blocked compensating port
I would suggest taking the vehicle in for an inspection of the hydraulics or the cable if not hydraulic several quotes fro accredited brake and clutch shops.
if the hydraulics have never been checked / cleaned or changed, I would be looking at that first because even if it ends up being the clutch and pressure plate, an old clutch slave and master cylinder will fail quickly with the added pressure of a new pressure plate.

Check clutch cable, check clutch lever, if there is some noise from the clutch when the engine is running, then the release bearing is most likely faulty, or even the clutch pressure plate.

Drop the tail shaft . remove the gear lever from inside the cab. remove the housing bolts and pull gear box back out of the way. remove the clutch pressure plate by evenly undoing the pressure plate cover bolts. lift away along with the clutch plate Remember the way the clutch plate is facing as it will only go in one way. If the flywheel is badly blued or scored remove it and have it machined flat. Check and if necessary replace the bearing/bush in the end of the crank shaft. Fit new clutch plate the correct way or the flywheel bolts will hit the clutch plate and you will have to do the job again. position up the pressure plate and use a clutch aligning tool to hold the clutch plate exactly in line with the bush/bearing in the crank. tighten up the cover plate bolts evenly so as not to warp the pressure plate. Replace the clutch throw out bearing as it will be on the way out. Reposition the gear box back on to the motor making sure that the flange faces remain parallel at all times so that the splines of the input shaft do not bind on the clutch plate splines. Push the gear box all the way home and bolt up. Do not use the bolts to pull the box in as there is something wrong and you will damage something. The box will go all the way home easily if you have done everything correctly. Finish the job.

By clutch set i'm assuming you mean the mechanical units(pressure plate, clutch plate and thrust bearing) not hydraulic? (clutch master and slave). Sounds like your clutch is slipping. Worn clutch plate would be the most obvious cause of the problem but it could be a faulty pressure plate or even clutch fork.Was your flywheel skimmed/machined to match your new clutch units? If not then it should be. Were the parts that were fitted genuine hyundai parts? If not then failure of the new units is also a possibility.

Dear sir regarding the auto transmission gear position no 4 is no funtion only can drive use gear no 3 .thank you.


1. faulty transaxle, 2. faulty clutch disc, 3. release lever and bearing not assembled properly, 4. faulty pressure plate., 5. pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts loose. Another thing would be to check the fluid to make sure you don't have a leak someplace in the system. Even if the clutch works ok, it might not be releasing something as it should do to a leak in the hydraulic system.

hi, if you have a manual gearbox then you dont have a torque converter a torque converter is what changes the gears in an automatic gearbox as your is manual all you will have inside your gearbox is a pressure plate a clutch plate and a thrust bearing witch operates the clutch when you press the pedal down.
The only thing you need to line up on a manual box is when you have fitted the new clutch you need to have a tool that holds the clutch plate central so that when you tighten the bolts up on the pressure plate the clutch stays central if you dont do this you wont be able to get the gearbox back onto the engine as the spline from the gearbox wont be able to go through the center of the clutch into the engine.

You can make or use you own tool to hold the clitch dead center as long as its a good fit and about the same size as the spline, so once you have the new clutch in and the pressure plate loosely bolted on you can still move the clutch around behind the pressure plate now right in the center their is a hole in the pressure plate and the clutch plate this is where the tool needs to be put so that the clutch plate remains dead center whilst you tighten the pressure plate up this will then make sure that the spline on the gearbox lines up properly not doing this will make it impossible to get the gearbox on properly.

I hope below steps can help...

1. Remove the transaxle.
2. If the pressure plate will be reused, paint or scribe the alignment marks on the pressure plate and flywheel for assembly reference.


Do not allow oil or grease to contaminate the clutch disc facing Even a trace of oil or grease may cause clutch grabbingor slipping. Handle the disc by its edges and do not touch the facing.
Loosen the pressure plate bolts one turn at a time to release the pressure plate spring tension evenly. A failure to release the tension evenly could cause distortion of the pressure plate.


3. Remove the pressure plate bolts, the pressure plate, and the clutch disc. While loosening the bolts, use SST to prevent turning of the flywheel.

Clutch won't release on 92 Nissan P/U. Changed Clutch Master Cylinder and slave. Bled system. Have good travel on slave cylinder but still does not release the clutch when the pedal is pushed?


If the vehicle has been standing for some time (6 months or more) without use, the clutch plate facings may be 'stuck' to the flywheel and pressure plate surface.
To check/clear this problem:-
(with the engine not running!)
hold clutch pedal down - then from under vehicle, find an opening in the clutch bellhousing (such as a water drain slot) where you can see/access the edge of the clutch plate (sandwiched between the pressure plate and flywheel).
Use a screwdriver blade (or similar tool) to prise clutch plate free from flywheel face (only small movement is required).
If the above is not the cause of your problem, 1) the clutch throwout mechanism should be examined for problems,
2) the pressure plate is faulty- may need to be replaced.

1990 YJ Clutch at very top... is it pressure plate, or adjustment?


Unlikely to be adjustment, but check it anyway. - Ensure clutch throughout bearing is not carrying when clutch is out, i.e. when clutch is released, there is some 'play' in the pressure plate actuating arm at the gearbox.
Adjust if necessary.
If all above ok, only the clutch plate/pressure plate condition remains as cause.
