I drive a 2001 VOlkswagen Jetta 1.8L. During the summer, spring, and fall months (before the super cold days got here) the heater would work and work quite well, suddenly it doesn't seem to heat up or get hot enough to blow warm air from the vents. This happened last year as well. At first it worked and then one day is no longer gets to the Air Warm. Any ideas where to began with fixing this?
I would start by checking the coolant level while the engine is cold. If the coolant level is low then add your coolant. Also take notice if your temp guage goes all the way upto the normal running temp. If your temp guage does not rise all the way to the middle where it should be, then u possibly have a stuck open thermostat.
1st check fuse to the heater
2nd check relay
3rd the filament wire of the heater
SOURCE: Heater on driver-side blows barely warm air other vents blow cold
the most probabale cause of this would be a disfunctional hear core if you replace your heater your heater will more than likley work the the way it's supposed to
SOURCE: Heat wont blow through heater or defroster vents
common problem, check under dash by the gas pedal if control arms are muving went selecting from ac to heat cuz this it is the control for the vents to go from ac to heat and to defrost.
SOURCE: driver's side air blowing warm, won't change
Sounds like there is a crack in the vent that leads to the drivers side, and hot air from the engine is leaking through.

There is a recall that has something to do with the air/heat system in 2005 Dodge Grand caravans. Recall F01. Here is a link. I had mine done two weeks ago, cost me nothing. My air conditioner was overheating.

This sounds like your automatic climate control is starting to malfunction. Check to make sure your coolant is full, and temp is not fluctuating, and when your vehicle is warmed up, try using the low setting and feel for air temp. Is it warmer than if you turn it up? When at idle the vehicle is not producing heat the same as if you are driving, putting load on your engine and more air/fuel combustion means more heat, which is why you can feel heat while driving. Ideally you should feel heat as soon as the engine is warming up, getting hotter as it reaches peak temp of 190-210 degrees. You can try to make sure your water control valve is not blocked, and all electrical connections are secure. This will be located close to your firewall and connected to the coolant tubes that run into your firewall to your heater-core. Also use recirc (setting)to try to summon as much heat as possible, however ultimately, you may need to take you vehicle in for service. If it only warms when driving defrost will be an issue. Good luck.
Testimonial: "Thanks for your posting it help a lot and fixed the problem. I was happy that you not only were able to tell me one option to attempt but multiple ones if the first did not work. The directions were also very easy to understand for someone that is not mechanically inclined. Once again thank you for your time and answer."
