Engine light on ! temperature going up ! help im a dumb woman !
Your no a dumb woman just a person not in the know about cars. You probably need to add coolant to the radiator over flow tank. Water alone will work but not advisable for the long term. The coolant over flow tank is a plastic unit about a quart in size located under the hood in the frount of the compartment normally on the passenger side. Most are well labled and have marks on the side as to proper levels to keep the coolant. Next time you are getting gas ask the attendant to point it out or a machanic. My bride put windshields washer fluid in the overflow tank and she's no dumby, so be careful. It should be properly labeled. If the overheating continues after the coolent is added it could be something else. Good luck.
This could be telling you that the coolant is low or a fan belt is broken you need to tell me more on how long it takes to rise and what are the conditions lindz
To: Smart woman who knows to do something about overheating probem: 1st thing to check is your coolant level. All cars have a plastic 'tank' or 'reservoir' where you add coolant (which is water and antifreeze, a 50/50 mix or you can buy it already mixed to 50/50). There will be a mark on the side of the plastic tank to indicate the proper level. Make sure it's at this level. With coolant at proper level, if temp gauge goes up above normal range, does the engine cooling fan turn on ? Just open the hood and check to see if it's operating. Do NOT drive the car if it the temp gets too high, as you can damage the engine, and a not too expensive fix becomes a $2000 + fix. Check the above, and post info to me, along with car mileage.
