1999 Volvo v70 arrow flashing

I have a P01618 and a P0717 code, I scanned it and I am learning that there are several things that control a shift. I have between 618 and 620 OHMS on each VSS. Throttle plate has been cleaned, codes erased and arrow does not come on at idle or bringing rpms up while in park. I am leaning on abs module or transmission but I don't know how to test the abs module. Can anyone help with my flashing arrow problem? Car also boggs down and serges while driving.

These models had a problem with the electronic control modules, and this is what controls the idle speed. Sometimes they just need to be cleaned, but sometimes they are defective. Volvo has extended the warranty on some of them to 10 years or 200,000 miles if it is found to be defective.

your going to have to call up your local volvo dealer and give them your vin number and they can look it up for you. You can try using radio-code.com but i wouldnt recomend it. Your best bet is calling your local volvo dealer and they will help you out.

SOURCE: 1998 Volvo V70 with potential transmission problems?

Yes, it's the 'pnp' switch (also known as the inhibitor switch) which is on the side of the transmission.

I own 2 Volvo 960s (3 litre automatics) which are similar in many respects ... and have that flashing arrow. It's a well known fault and you don't have much to worry about.

Rather than write it all here, you can read what I wrote as an ebay guide about it at http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/Volvo-960-Automatic_W0QQugidZ10000000003233806

I did put similar info on my website at http://www.glennsmart.btinternet.co.uk/volvo960.html with photos

Though the ebay guide is better ...

If you haven't got time to read it ... forget the flashing arrow and put a bit of black tape over it ... My wife's car has (192,000 miles) had that arrow flashing for 3 years. My car (100,000 miles) has had that flashing arrow since I bought it 1 year ago.

I did change the pnp on both cars ... but you also need to have the computer error reset by Volvo to have the light extinguished. Don't worry ... keep driving.

Hello, I have a 1999 Volvo s70 2.4 engine my check engine light is on and I have a yellow arrow flashing. After check engine scan im getting back codes P1618 and also P0717 what does this mean?

This is a gearbox issue. Both codes relate to the transmission. Specifically P0717 is to do with an engine speed sensor that lets the gearbox know when it is supposed to change gear. Have you had any work done recently. They might have disturbed some wiring causing this problem. Replacing this sensor is not a simple task as i believe it is inside the box so requires the gearbox to be removed. There are some good Volvo forums on the internet that will be able to help you and point you to a local independent Volvo garage rather than a main dealer to keep costs down.

Codes Po1618 and P0717- Arrow on dash flashes, cleared the codes and arrow flash comes back. all vss has a ohn reading of 616 to 620. I don't know if the problem is in abs module or transmission. How and...

code p0717 refers to turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor--no signal===causes wiring--TSS sensor---ECM/TCM
code p1618 refers to transmission control module (TCM) MIL request==causes-- automatic transmission malfunction. I would say that you have 2 faults On is a turbine sensor that would account for the speed variation. As for the other have a pressure test done on the box to check for internal failures. Check for wiring to the TCM and see if the TCM can be tested .. Have an reputable auto transmission shop do the tests

I have the same problem with my 2000 v70 glt a not only does the break, abs, and check engine lights come on and the speedometer and odometer don't work but the arrow starts flashing and the vehicle seems...

The most common problem is with the ABS control unit. You will most likely have to replace it. It is located under the brake hydraulic unit (not the master cylinder). This part can be purchaced from a Volvo dealer, or sent to one of the many places that repair them. If you choose to fix it yourself, and would like the name of one of the companys that repair them, let me know.

i got the same car as urs. its seems to me that its the classic problems that you have. To slove them. Dont go to a dealer, coz they ll rip u off. Now, check on DIY guide for uninstalling ABS moudle. Go to ebay, find urself a ABS Moudle rebuild. 60-80bugs. put it back on. It ll slove ur limb home mode, speed meter drop to 0 when driving. flashing arrow. Contact volvo, buy urself a new ignition antena ring, 50bugs. and once again. look for DIY guide for installation. I replace both of them myself for less than an hour. u might need to buy some special torx for abs moudle tho. but it wont be a big deal. Hope it helps you.

My 99' volvo v70 continually flashes the traction control and abs warning light and the speedometer stops working the trip meter and the odometer go blank than all of a sudden it will start working again...

Sounds like a bad ABS control module is at least part of your problem. The symptoms are usually and ABS and TRACS light intermittent or constand and eventually your speedometer works intermittently or totally quits. This guy rebuilds/upgrades them for about $140. New ones run over $800. http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/Volvo_Parts/Volvo_ABS_removal.htm
