Oil leak, between and forward of the axel line

I noticed an accumulation of oil drops on the garage floor. I placed a piece of cardboard on the garage floor, not only to protect the floor, but also to help locate the source of the oil leak, tho not a reliable identifier. Minus the road grime, all visible bolts are true and tight. Losing 1 qt of oil every 6-8 weeks.

I will make an attempt to tighten the oil filter to see if it is loose.

If the problem started right out of the blue, it might be wise to check the oil filter. Some times when turning the filter on a small leak in the canister can happen. Where did the oil land on the cardboard?

  • Anonymous May 15, 2009

Most likely cause is a valve cover gasket. Even a small, discreet crack can send a large amount of oil down the front of the engine and coat the under side. Other causes (tho unlikely) may be A loose oil filler tube or bad seal on the dipstick. Or it may be a leaking power steering reservoir, the fluid may be power steering fluid. A leak can fall into the idler on the serpentine belt and would be thrown down in that general area. These are both unlikely but should be glanced at.

2006 pt cruiser oil leak three small drops all with in a foot and a half of each other

When the head was removed to replace the head gasket, likely oil was 'spilled' down the sides of the engine block. If it wasn't completely cleaned, it may have accumulated on the frame cross member or other components below the engine. I would clean up the drops on the floor and watch for additional evidence for a couple of days. If they keep appearing, take your car to the shop that did the work and have them check it out for you.

Oil drip with oil smells like gasoline

Could be 2 problems. Some rear main seals leak with oil flowing out where trans joins engine. You should crawl under vehicle and look directly up from oil leak, If inside garage use a newpaper to catch current drip.

Gassy oil can be leaking fuel injector draining into oil pan. Sometimes dirty fuel injector will stay open and fuel pressure will continue to drain into motor after vehicle is off. Sometimes stuff like seafoam will clean injectors.

I have a 2000 cougar and its leaking oil when its parked theres a medium oil leak on floor what is it.

the best way to locate the oil leak, if you can't see where it is coming from is to park the car overnight , and put a large piece of cardboard under the engine, so where the oil leak is, it will drop onto the cardboard, then the next day, look under the car, and see where the oil is on the cardborad, the leak should be in the area of where it is on the cardboard. also, the leaks could be anything from the oil pan gasket, oil sending unit, valve covers, intake manifold gasket. or the rear main seal. hope that this information was very helpful to you.

I checked my oil level cause the car said so,put a qt. in it then went to work and came bck home and said level is low cheched it and it was a qt. low. What cause this.

Hi!
That's a lot of oil loss, And its not normal or maybe when you put the oil in maybe it needed 2 Qt then you put one and it still needed one or you might be leaking oil. Did you notice any leaks under your car when you park home ? Check for leaks because that's a lot of oil and the car wont burn that much from work to home, Is there any smoke coming from the tail pipe ?

My car engine oil is leacking not from chamber wat to do

I got the part about the engine oil leaking, but what chamber are you referring to?
If the engine oil is leaking, it can usually be pinpointed by putting a drip pan or large piece of cardboard on the garage floor where the car is parked and looking directly upward.

I have a 87 camry it looks like there is a oil leek starting.I checked the drain plug, oil filter thay all seem to be fine.can you tell me where the next common place to look would be,or should I just try...

Hello Mark.
The next most common thing I would look into here is the oil pressure sensor. They sometimes pull apart and leak at the seam.
Your 2 liter engine has it's sensor on the top left side of the cylinder head.
If the concentration of oil seems to be on the top side of the engine a valve cover gasket may have cracked.
A severe leak will often wash dirt off of an engine so look for an oil washed area. If nothing apparent it may be a good idea to give your engine a quick cleanup to help you find the leak as oil can travel a long way on an engine.
Hope you find the source OK.

Air conditioning accumulator assembly dumped fluid, no prior service to system

It sounds like the accumulator has either corroded or a seal is leaking, air con pipes tend to corroded, due to being aluminum and force the seal from its' seat, best thing to do is check where the leak is from exactly, it sounds like there is a special dye in the system (hence the pool on the floor). The ultraviolet light (black light) along with special glasses can spot the leak easily. Please make sure that if you have a leak that the system is vacuumed down, to avoid poluting the atmosphere. Also if you remove pipes, make sure you replace them quicly as moisture from the air will quickly upset the system. What ever the way, you need to go to an aircon specialist to get it fixed and recharged ready for the summer heat!
Hope this helps
