hello,your fuel filter and fuel pump is located in your left side near rear wheel,(under your car)jack-up your car in left side,remove the plastic cover,filter and pump is in,ty

SOURCE: 2002 MB C320 gas cap problem
I had the exact same problem, went to the Mercedes dealer and they fixed it for free with a pair of pliers. They just pulled up the metal clips and turned them back into place.

they are secured with 4 bolts unlike the previous models that required keys. You must remove the console trim and ashtray. possibly the a/c/ unit and upper center vent. Just be careful not to damage the fiber optic cable that attatches to the back of the unit.
