Pajero GDI 3500 with rotation going below 500 rpm and car cuts off

Hi, I have a Mitsubishi Pajero GDI V6 3500, year 1997. I live in Mozambique(africa) and it's really difficult to find a mechanic to help on it, so I will to do it by myself Many times the RPM of my car is going under 500 rpm and it cuts off when I stop in the corner or in traffic. If i keep acelerating(above 1000 rpm), the car works well. Two warning lights are turning on when the car stop: "A/T" and the "Battery". These two lights just blink when the rotation is passing by 800 rpm and then turn off (if the car maintain rotation) or the rotation drops and the car stall. I've fixed the alternator (and tested out of the car) and the battery, but the problem persists. I don't know what else can be, and how to fix it alone because I don't have any mechanic here. Please help me!!! If someone have pictures of similar repairs...

Oops, sry! If your battery is good , might replace the alternator anyway, it takes 750 RPM to excite an alternator.

Reset the computer: by unhook both battery cables, hold them together for 30 seconds without touching the battery, then put the cables back onto the battery

Computer will re-learn driving for the next 10 miles or so, hope this helps!

Your car has a bad ground or electrical connection. With electricity especially in cars and more so the older they get. Start at battery and work your way to the end of all ground wires first. Many times i have seen the battery terminals cleaned at battery to terminal connection but the wire to terminal connection are worn or.dirty.look at all.ground from engine to body they often corrode or melt as they are braided aluminum. If all else fails your low idle speed is a vacuum leak listen for a hiss when engine is.running or if u.can seal.the air intake and exhaust pipe.and use compressor to pump air into engine through a vacuum line on intake.manifold keep it.under

keep pressure under 15 psi your looking and listening for a air leak not filling a tire often the rubber boot between maf or map sensors cracks and air.unregulated is allowed in.

automatic transmissions are also have vacuum lines connected. to them check all lines and electronic connections not forgetting grounds to and from transmission.

SOURCE: My car is a 1997

Hi, an intermittent poor idle can be caused by certain valves that are perhaps not always closing properly. Three valves I would check are the EGR, purge, and idle air control valve. The EGR valve can get dirty and start to jam. The purge valve sometimes gets charcoal coming thru the line from the vapor cannister, and the charcoal can hold the valve open when it's supposed to be closed. The idle air control valve is the valve that is supposed to control your idle. If it is not opening properly, the car will not idle right. I explain a lot of this in the following post: http://www.fixya.com/cars/r7427423-fix_poor_idle_high_idle_stalling_fuel

On your car, I am not sure which emission controls are installed. If you have evaporative emission laws, you will have a vapor cannister somewhere in the engine compartment. I believe the purge valve is atop the cannister on the Pajero. Pull the hose off to see if there is charcoal in it. Also look inside the valve where you pulled the hose off to see if it is closed.
There are pictures below of the idle air control valve and the EGR valve. The idle air control valve is mounted on the throttle body, near where the cables from the accelerator pedal attach to the engine. Take the valve off and see if it needs cleaning. Also clean out the passages in the throttle body. Use carburetor cleaner to clean these parts. Also clean out the inside throttle body, if dirty.
Finally, if these valves seemed to be OK, take off the EGR valve and clean it out. Make sure it closes by default. If not, replace it. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

I have a pajero 3500 gdi 1997 model, that is light engine check in dashboard and can't accelerate more than 3000 rpm.

ECU has logged an error code. YOu need to read it out with a tester and then fix the reported problem or clear the error code.
ECU goes to safe mode with reduced power if certain errors are logged.

Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed 1997 Model Engine #6G74 GDI V6 3500,no power,I suspect its the engine control unit,I order the ECU,but still no power, probably its crankshaft and camshaft sensor.

I solve this problem with Mitshubishi Pajero GDI 6G74 like this: remove the two little filters from the high pressure pump and ,if necessary, insert a external gasoline filter.
