My mini cooper s 2003 is turning engine off automatically when I reduce the speed like at roundabouts and trafic lights showing the engine light and EML on the dashboard. As soon as I turn on the engine all goes away and driving fine. But this has become a pain now. Can anyone help please?

Remove both battery cables, hold them together without touching the battery, for 30 seconds, then reinstall battery cables. This resets the ECU, then drive normal. See if it helps!

2003 mini cooper s has yellow triangle light on

On a Cooper S the Yellow Triangle is the slip control. If this light flashes it is letting you know that it is working by cutting horse power or by using the brakes to gain traction. If this symbol is illuminated you may have just hit the switch that says ASC or DSC. If the light does not turn off after hitting the switch or by turning the car off and starting the car again, you have a problem with the ASC/DSC control module or the wheel speed sensors. You will have to take your car in to have it checked out.

Mini Cooper S Engine Management Light

The following are descriptions from the Mini-Cooper S owner's manual.

Service Engine Soon "?If the warning lamp comes on
either continuously or intermittently, this indicates a malfunction in the emissions-related electronic systems."

EML light: "Engine electronics ?Malfunction in the engine electronics. You can continue to drive with reduced engine output or engine speed."

Triangle circled by an arrow: "Automatic Stability Control plus
Traction (ASC+T)/Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
?Indicator lamp flashes: System active: drive and braking forces are regulated.
The indicator lamp stays lit: ASC+T/DSC switched off with button or defective. In the event of a defect: please have the system inspected at your MINI Dealer."

First, inspect the belts to make sure none failed at high RPM. If one broke, inspect any cable or hoses in the plane of the belt to see if there was any damage (e. g., a ripped wire in the ASC+T/DSC system). Second, get a readout of the engine error code. (If you get indications of a major vacuum leak including rough idle, look for a blown head gasket.) If you get something else, please post the results in a comment so we can go to the next step.

I have a mini cooper 2002 and need to check the automatic transmission fluid. John

There is no dipstick. Nor is it a sealed unit.

You need to remove the splash shield under the engine.
The use a 6mm hex key to remove the fill/check flug from the side of the tranny.. The fluid should be level with the bottom of the hole.

It's all on Page 020-28 of the Bentley Press Mini Cooper Service Manual. Amazon carries it.

If you have a manual tranny, which one do you have? 5 or 6 speed? Again, there is no dipstick, and you have to check the fill hole on the side of the tranny

My service engine light came on on my 2003 mini

If the light was flashing when it came on, then it means your engine is misfiring.

A solid light can mean anything from a loose/faulty gas cap to a transmission issue.

This light comes on when the computer detects a fault of some sort in its diagnostic tests. If it keeps detecting this issue, the light will remain on. If the light turns off, then it has detected that the issue may no longer be present.

In order to find out what the exact reason was for your light, You need to have your car computer scanned to retrieve the code that the computer would have stored when the light triggered. Most garages will do this free of charge. The code will tell you what may have caused the light to initially turn on.
