Dodge had a lot of problems with the drive train. The torch converter has two gears in it has given out. replace it. You may have to change your screen and fluid also.

The first and also the cheapest way to attempt to diagnose this problem, would be to replace the lube in the transmission with the specified type in the manual. You did say it looked burnt, but are there any metal shavings or something like that?

SOURCE: 1998 Chrysler Voyager Transmission problem

FYI, My 99' just had a rebuild put in it $2000. Lent it to family, and even before they left I was worried that mileage etc, was just about time for it to go. I had no warning signs, just something in the back of my mind said "anytime now". They made it to their destination 3 or 4 hours away, no problem all the way, then next morning running into town for groceries, spit, sputter clank, bang, done ! Piece came right out through the top of the transmission casing , big hole & a gear laying on top of the casing. Needless to say, they felt bad, but I just had a premonition it was time. That's why when those things act up, don't play around, get it diagnosed a.s.a.p. Trying to get through the week, can cost you big time. Here's to hoping yours is an easy, inexpensive fix.

SOURCE: tranny stoped working no movement in any gears.

I know you don't want to hear this but the forward clutch pack has failed, that is either due to wear or a loose of hydraulic fluid pressure inside the trans, pull the pan and look for debris in the pan, if that is only normal small amounts of black goop then the problem is a failed seal in the pressure passages, in any case the trans has to come apart to fix it, so an overhaul will be required. this trans is prone to failure around 100,000 miles. my experience 40 years as an automotive tech, master certified automatic trans technician.

2002 Ford escape shifter moves but car won't move

Go see if your cable has become disconnected/broken leaving you in neutral.

Why my 01 ford escape will not go in to drive or first gear??

If the shifter will not move it's possible the brake pedal position switch is not working or there is a blown fuse. Have someone check your brake lights while you press the pedal. Newer cars require an electrical signal provided by the brake pedal switch to open a solenoid that allows the shifter to move. So.e vehicles have a keyed bypass next to the shifter. Insert your key in the hole l, move the shifter to neutral and then start the car. From there you can drive it but you will have to continue to do this until it's properly repaired. Other vehicles allow you to turn the key forward but not in the on position then you can move the shifter to neutral. You can then start the car and drive it.

I have all gears but reverse and when in park and neutral and gas pedal is pressed the car moves forward, why?

well could be two things. either your transmission has crapped out on you. or you have a shifter linkage issue. which means when the car is in park its not really in park. try this. move the shifter and see if the car moves in a different gear then what it says it is in . so if it moves in neutral it could be drive and reverse is neutral. if it does not reverse at all. time for a new trany is my guess.

Kia troubleshoot

Sorry but you are left to only one solution. Have the car towed to a real repair shop. After it was broken and than someone else took it apart you have no other options.

Shifter is erratic. wont start in park. drives forward when shifted to reverse, sometimes drives forward when in park. sometimes reverse is neutral (which is good so it will start!!!) what is going on???

It sounds like the linkage at the transmission has come loose. Have someone get inside and move the shift lever from gear to gear so you can see where the linkage is on your transmission. You'll have to climb under ypou truck to see this, on the drivers side. check to see that all the bolts are tight. Your switch that allows you truck to start in Park or Neutral is located there.

My 86 Cabriolet 5 speed just had the shifting linkage rebuilt by a non vw mechanic using an ebay kit. It's somewhat better but still not right. When the shifter is left loose and pushed forward it goes...

sounds like the linkage is misaligned, vw makes an alignment tool just 4 this problem. mine used to go into the wrong gear, and then I lost reverse I got so pissed off I slammed the shifter to the left and that fixed it, but I cant really recommend that you do this. Best of luck though!

Stick shift

Hi:
The shift pattern is pretty much the same on all 5 speed cars. The top row is the odd numbers, 1-3-5
the bottom row is 2-4-Reverse. The center position is neutral

Here is the key: The shifter is slightly spring-loaded to the center position. If you hold in the clutch pedal and pull the shifter to neutral, and let go of it, it will automatically be lined up in the position, that if you pushed it forward , it would go to 3rd gear, and if you pulled it back, it would go into 4th gear.
This way, to start driving, you start out in neutral, grab the shifter lightly, and push it first to the left, then forward. This is first gear, where you start out. when you want to shift to second, push in the clutch, and keeping left pressure on the shifter, pull all the way back . Here is the easy part, 2nd to 3rd. When you are ready, push in the clutch, and just push the gear shift forward , till it hits neutral, and is spring loaded to the middle. Then you just push it straight forward to 3rd, then next shift, straight back to 4th.
Last gear, 5th: push forward to the neutral row, then Push to the right till it lines up ,and forward to the 5th gear. Reverse should only be shifted into from a dead stop. Find neutral, push the shifter all the way right, then pull back towards you. Hope this helps.
Practice a bunch in the driveway!
