Need a small 7 mm spanner to remove .mark each lead with a number in the order of removal .change both it and your rotor arm at the same time.

What would cause my 84 monte carlo 305 only fire on 4 cylinder

Bad pick up coil in distributor or worn shaft. The wires on the pick up coil should have 500 ohms to 1500 ohms resistance.
Move the wires and vacuum advance while testing, reading should not change. Then test resistance from one coil pick up wire to distributor housing this should be infinity.
Wiggle the shaft and see if there is any sideways movement.

I replaced all my sensors a distributor relay coil relay what will still make my 1999 chevy tahoe with a 350 cause it to still not fire

yes, if the distributor pick up isn't working there'd be no spark.

I have a 95 GMC 305. Spark plugs do not last but 10000 miles I have changed plugs, plug wires, coil and distributor the new distributor would not go back in the same place miss bad got it to run but misses...

The distributor HAS to go back in the same position as the old one. If not, it will be out of timing and will not run correctly.(as you noted) You will have to remove the distributor and put it in correctly.

Wont start no spark

If your engine cranks normally but will not start because it has no spark, or it stalls and won't restart because it has no spark, the problem may be due to any of the following:

A bad pickup inside the distributor (on engines that have a distributor), a stripped distributor drive gear (common problem with plastic distributor drive gears), broken, loose or corroded wires from the pickup to the ignition module orPCM.

A bad crankshaft position (CKP) sensor (on engines that do not have a distributor), or broken, loose or corroded wires from the sensor to the PCM.

A bad ignition module (on engines that have a distributor or use an ignition module separate from the PCM)

A bad ignition coil (on engines that have a distributor and a single coil)

A bad rotor or distributor cap (cracks or carbon tracks that are allowing the spark to short to ground)

Faulty ignition switch.

I have 1991 mpv v6 3.0 engine. It will not start. I changed the ignition coil and the igniter coil. what else could cause no spark?

Several things, actually. There could be no battery power at the distributor due to a blown fuse or a bad main relay. You could have a bad distributor cap, bad rotor, bad ignition cable between the coil and the distributor cap, a bad Engine Control Unit, a bad distributor pick-up coil, or any of the wiring in-between. (see schematic)

The rotor in the cap wont turn when motor is truning over do i have a bad dist.

The prognosis I suspect is worse than bad distributor. I suspect your timing belt broke and is not turning camshaft which turns your distributor. A broken belt is more common than bad distributor (sorry)

Hi,black smoke from tail pipe is unburned fuel ( excessive fuel consumption ) so your not firing on all cylinders!!! ( that's where the surging is coming from ) if i recall the 88 model has a carburetor.( not tbi,or injected) but either way its going to be in the spark! start with the easiest/cheapest and work your way up... will be like a #1.bad spark plug wire, or #2.bad plug, #3.bad distributor cap,#4.bad distributor rotor,#5 bad electronic distributor module. will be one or more of those items that's bad.......good luck..yz-maniac

My 400e mercedes is misfiring,and I hear a small metal pcs crunchy sound around the distributor cap,do u think that the rotor cap is bad

Your distributor bushing is bad, causing the distributor to wobble when running. Get it checked out for repair and/or replace the distributor. Take off the cap and check the play in the shaft that the rotor is attached to first.

You have a cylinder imbalance ,plugs or wires,if the distributor is in the front down in front,it has got to have some work,look for a water pump leaking on the distributor.Check cap,and rotor on the distributor.
