Squeak near the serpentine belt

Hey guys, There is a loud squeaking that sounded like it was coming from the water pump, so I replaced it and checked all the other pulleys that all felt ok. I started it up and it went away for about 30 seconds then came right back. Its pretty loud and gets louder with acceleration. Does anyone know what I should try next? Thanks for the help...

SOURCE: Buick Lesabre squeaks when idling and accelerating

You do not have a timing belt

You need a mechanic to actually listen
to & diagnose those issues

Not something one can do over the internet

SOURCE: installing the serpentine belt

The power steering pump is only held on by two bolts that are removed thru the pulley holes. Anyway you don't have to remove the whole motor mount just remove the nut that holds the mount just to the left of the balancer. then remove the stud with a inverted torx bit. then remove the sleeve the stud went thru and then the belt will come off.

SOURCE: I replaced the water pump and cut the old serpentine belt out that was tangled around the pulleys Now I cannot figure out how to get the motor mount off to get it up around the alternator pulley

Here's a link to a web site to give you a diagram for your serpentine. Just insert the year, make, model, and engine size. Once there, you will see to the left a link below the part number called "Routing diagram". Best of luck on your repair.

SOURCE: Easing tension to replace water pump

You may not need a serp tool. Look for a place on the tensioner to fit your ratchet into then turn to push tension off. If there is enogh room to get the ratchet in

SOURCE: screech in engine. after serpentine belt stops

Check if screeching is related to engine vacuum.
Briefly remove (or loosen off) the oil filler cap - if noise immediately stops high crankcase vacuum is the cause. Check / replace PCV valve to fix.
If above is not the cause, listen with a short length of hosepipe to try and narrow down noise source.
Silicon lube spray or pencil lead graphite on a selected belt should cause sound change if it's caused by that belt.

05 dodge durango 5.7 hemi. When I step on gas to accelerate I hear a loud sweaking sound. It just started tonight what could it be.

Hi Mary:
Squeaks from the engine area will be coming from moving non-lubricated parts.
Try checking:
- Serpentine belt. These will squeak like crazy if they have anti-freeze on them.
- Water pump. They have a bushing with a seal. Even if the seal is still not leaking, the bushing can be worn and will make some noise.
- Alternator, power steering pump, air conditioning pump can all have similar broblems with bearings.
MECHANICS TRICK! Use a stethescope to listen near the part you're checking. This is a mechanics stethescope, not the doctors kind. I just use a 2 ft long piece of 1/2" wood dowell. Hold it at one end with my thumb over the end, put my thumb against my ear, and touch the part that I'm checking. Obviously, the motor has to be running while you do this, so STAY SAFE! Do not let the dowell touch any moving parts. No kidding. Your motor can talk to you.

Sounds like it's time to replace the serpentine belt that runs the accessories (water pump, power steering, alternator, etc.)

2005 xb squeals when I start the car then fades

I'm not sure where these other guys live but their solutions are nonsense. Coolant leaks? Fuel pumps? Dead or dying batteries? I too drive a 05 Scion xB and have had squeak issues. These squeaks and squeals are caused by one or both of the serpentine belts. If not the belts then the pulley's associated with the belts. One of the belts drives the power steering and the other operates the Alternator, Water Pump and AC Compressor.
Does your car squeak when you have the AC turned on and the fan running fairly fast?
Do you hear a rough kind of noise when you're turning the wheel? If it's either or those two then I'd check your belts.
But still to be on the safe side I'd bring it to a mechanic and have them check the belts for glazing or wear then go from there. If you can put belts on yourself they will run you about $40 for the pair. Most garages charge an arm and a leg for them and then another appendage to install them.

Best of luck

When car is running idle or at slow speeds it makes a squeaking sound

There are several heat shields that can squeak or you could just need a new serpentine belt. Unfortunately, a lot of things can cause a 'squeak' but without knowing what area it comes from, if it changes with engine speed, or vehicle speed, I can't give you any pinpoint information.

I can't stop the squeak on my 8.1l chevy 2500hd.

There is a pulley out of alignment. Only 1/8th inch out will cause a serpentine to sqeak.

My 1992 sl1 saturn was stolen and recovered when I got it back I got it back with a loud squeking noise coming from the serpentine belt area. Sounds like loud crickets and when I accelerate the squeak gets...

It sounds like an idler pully needs replaced. The bearings are going bad. It is not hard to do this, but more than likely that is what it is. You should also replace the belt.
