Most likely the sunroof casette is leaking; either the drains are clogged,the casette is allowing water to leak, or you have the older casette with poor water management;i would open your rear hatch and check the drain, with the hatch open, there are two drains one on each side at the top of the body, where the hatch meets the body; there is a small door to each drain(recommend removing) if you open that small door and water pours out most likely thats the souce of your leak. you can also see if you can push water into the drains to unclog them; you can also lower the headliner in the rear, open the sunroof, and pour water into the casette to see where the water leaks out and go from there; usually the backing on the headliner doesn't soak up water and it channels the water into one area; since your vehicle is an 05 and hopefully under 75000 miles the dealership can goodwill a repair. you may even look into an aftermarket extended warranty and make sure they cover the sunrrof in the warranty; replacing a sunroof casette is a big job, not recommended for the diy;

2011 bmw x5 navigation not selectable. when I push nav button it says currently not available. what do I need to replace to get this to work?

You will need to go to the main dealer and get the sat nav option added to the spec of your vehicle.

This could be as little as just activation or as much as installing the whole sat nav option.

2001 BMW X5 radio works intermittently

Most sat nav/radio issues are caused by a flat battery! The most simple solution to try is th switch the vehicle off, go to the fuse box on the right hand panel of the boot (as your facing boot) remove fuse 24 (5 amp) for 5 minutes then replace and start vehicle as normal! This will reset the nav/stereo system! Rich B

2004 BMW X5 4.4i Left lights on resulting in flat battery. Car was jump started from another vehicle (Ford Transit van). Everything fine for a few days. Now, intermittently the radio/sat nav goes haywire!...

sounds like your car has the multi function steering wheel, i know on the 7 and 5 series they come out of sync, im not sure why.
its about £75 to get plugged in at the dealers and they reprogram it, sometimes i have had the odd car with a damaged slip ring, it does all sorts of things, 1 in particular kept on beeping the horn,
i would say if u got 1 urs got upset when battery flat.

BMW X5 - 2005

Hi kuldipdhanja this sounds like it could be an internal fault with the video module or the sat nav drive, you could try discontecting the battery negative lead for 15 minutes to reset the control units, you will have to remove the spare wheel and unfasten the air compressor bracket to get to the battery, this fix may only be temporary but it is alot cheaper than replacing parts. regards mark.

Can you put factory sat nav in an X5 when it does not already have it in

Hello There

Yes it is possible to install the factory sat nav in you X5, but apart from the head unit you will also need:

  1. new wiring loom
  2. dvd navigation unit installed at the back
  3. TMC radio unit again at the back
  4. bluetooth unit
All the interior needs to come out i.e seats, floor carpets, door trims.

If you feel brave enough then there are BMW forums which gives you very detailed information on how to to it, but don't expect to get it done in a day or even two, a week is probably realistic time. It took me 2 weeks to do my first 3 series.

Hope this helps. Please don't forget to rate me.

Many Thanks
