AS diff breathers are only a screwed in fitting with a loose fitting cap over the opening the only way to get oil out is that the oil is not correct . Either up past the fill plug hole in the front of the diff housing or the oil is not 80-90 oep oil. Lighter oil will froth up and bubble out of the breather

SOURCE: what do the dash lights on a toyota landcruiser

I don't have one of those vehicles but in the Path Finder it meant Low oil pressure or low oil. If your oil level is correct get the oil pump checked out before the engine is damaged.

You need to have your seal replaced. I would recommend installing new bearing while you're at it. Front axle vent tube leaks out oil

You are likely to get an oil 'mist' from a vent or breather tube -this is quite normal. The 'mist' cools around the breather and forms a small oily patch. on the axle casing.

Are you certain that the oil is coming from the vent tube and isn't due to a split in the metal casing or from the gasket/seal?

How much oil are you losing? The only other way you would lose oil is if excess pressure was building up inside the differential and to be honest, it's difficult to see how this would occur unless it has recently been over-filled with oil.

If there are drips of oil appearing on the ground underneath the axle/differential chances are that it's the cover seal or the pinion seal at fault. The pinion seal is where the driveshaft/propshaft attaches to the differential. The cover seal is the gasket between the metal cover where the filler plug is and the differential casing itself.

Front axle wine on landcruiser

There's a possibility that the front wheel bearing/hub assembly is wearing out. When it starts wearing out, it will definitely make a sound like you're describing.

I have gear oil coming out of right rear tire area

You have a leaky axle seal. Sometimes this is cause by the vent or breather being plugged. Sometimes they just wear out and another cause is bad bearings. Either way the axle has to be pulled and seal replaced.

1997 toyota landcruiser colorado rear axle oil leak, oil is leaking from the axle casing into the handbrake drum on the nearside rear.

I have an oil leak on my 95 Landcruiser. It's coming from a small round plastic fitting on the very top of the engine with small hoses coming from it. Do you know what this could be so I can replace it?

It sounds like what we mechanics call a PCV valve just go down to your local auto parts store and they should be able able to help you find the right parts needed to simply fix it yourself.

I have a 91 4 runner that just started making a (hard to describe) periodic buzz/whine sound coming from the right front driveshaft/axle area mostly when 4x4 is disengaged

Neal, it may not be the right front axle. I thought I had the same problem with 97 4Runner but it turned out to be the right rear axle bearing. Even the technican thought the niose was coming from the right front axle when he test drove it with me. Seems those rear bearings go out if you do a lot of towing with the truck. Cost about $ 400.00 to replace make sure they replace the ABS sensor collar and replace the axle breather tube vent ( they get plugged and when they replace the bearing , they have to replace the seal in the axle also and mine leaked after because of a plugged axle vent.
