I was told I needed a new fuel pump for my 2004 Chevy Blazer and I was looking online to see if I could find a cheap one and they sell fuel pumps and fuel pump assembly's. Whats the difference?
Ok, thanks. I have another question now, Are universal feul pumps really universal or should I just find a fuel pump thats made for my truck?Ok, thanks. I have another question now, Are universal feul pumps really universal or should I just find a fuel pump thats made for my truck?
Well, I've tried a bunch of the gas treatments and I've already replaced the filter. I have been asking around even people that I know are mechanics. I've been googling fuel pump problems all evening so even though I'm not a mechanic I think it is the fuel pump. They did try to sell me a pump that I know was wayyyy over priced so I got online and started searching for one myself and I found a few that were reasonable. Spectra huh?Well, I've tried a bunch of the gas treatments and I've already replaced the filter. I have been asking around even people that I know are mechanics. Are you SURE it's the fuel pump that has gone out? Surely it's not a clogged fuel filter and/or a pump relay (fuse) thats causeing the problem? Did the tech. that TOLD you that you needed a fuel pump tell you how he came to that conclusion? I'm skeptical of what these shops are telling the public these days to "sell" the job. <been there, done that... got the t-shirt even> Don't be afraid to ask questions...it's your hard earned dollar... If in fact you do need a pump...for less than $200 the SPECTRA is a good one -- This Is A High Quality Direct-Fit OE Replacement Electric Fuel Pump Module Assembly (Complete) It's like plug n play baby, Hope i was able to save you some money... Happy Mothers Day to ya...if it applies :D
Some fuel pumps can be purchased and replaced by themselves. Other electric fuel pumps are combined with the fuel tank sending unit, and can only be replaced as a unit. ( as I believe your might be ). More expensiove this way, but thats how cars have become. Lucky you dont't have to buy the whole fuel tank, pump, and sender, as a unit. Hope this helps
I assume with the pump, you get just the pump & you remove old one etc & salvage module, strainer etc. Complete assy, is all the necessary parts such as module ,strainer & pump already together & ready to drop in. Not 100% sure just pump available for your vehicle, but if $ difference is not too much, I wouldn't go through the aggravation, or take the chance of another component failing that you didn't replace, and have to pull it out again later. Make sure tank is clean inside before doing whatever you decide.
Universal usually means more aggravation in 99% of the experiences I have had. 1 size fits all, except yours. ! Ha- sorry, I'd go with the one that is for your vehicle.

HI, In your glove-box there are three in a row. The one you are looking for (fuel pump relay) is the one on the far left. I wanted to also inform you that the problem can be "other" electrical as well.Have you listened for the fuel pump in a quiet place when you turn on the ignition? (whirring noise) You may need to check/replace your inline fuel filter. They are always overlooked but are designed to last only about 25,000-30,000 miles! If full/clogged they can prevent fuel from reaching the throttle body and have the problem you are experiencing.
you can get the required fuel pump for you car from the above link.you can also get proper details about the cost and the part from the above link before you order the fuel pump.http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/mmp/chevy~blazer~fuel_pump~parts.html
check out this.keep updated for any further assistance.
thanks.
ok, well as for the relay, yes there is one in your under hood fuse box....or inside the drivers door...but if you don't hear the pump, fear the worst, it may be dead.....happens ALOT.....check and change the relay, about $10, then if nothing, time for a new pump.
Before spending several hundres on a fuel pump, I recommend doing a fuel pressure test. You can get a test gauge pretty cheap at a parts store. If the pump is junk, you raise the truck, lower the fuel tank, unplug the electronics from the pump at the top of the tank, then with a hammer and flat head scrwedrive, gently tap the lock ring in a counter clockwise direction until it pops off. Pull the pump assembly out and install the new one. Reverse directions to install.

Why is it that just the fuel pump cost more than the fuel pump assembly?
