I have a chevy 1500 z-71 with 51,000 miles. when the transmission goes from 2nd to 3rd it will not go. Now i am stuck with only first and second gear. can you help me with this. is this a defect or am i in trouble

    It is a 2005 chevy 1500 ex. cab z-71 v-8 with an automatic transmission; it hel would be great. Thank you.

    What you will need to do is go to your local Auto Zone part store and ask them to scan your truck for codes. They will do this for you free of charge. Write the code or codes down and let me know what they are.



    I assume you have checked the transmission fluid level and it is good. Does the fluid color still look red or is it brown.

If tranny fluid is clear and at normal level, then the issue is with the transmission - it is getting ready to go sayonara.

I have a 91 volvo 740 I am having a problem with the transmission possibly. Its an automatic with only about 150k miles. It starts and takes off in 1st and 2nd but is sluggish and feels like its switching...
check the oil level of the transmission
that transmission does have an overdrive relay
that relay may be faulty

get the transmission serviced and if found in bad condition
cheapest fix is
source a good used automatic transmission and have that fitted in


cost of a full rebuild on these transmission is more than the volvo is worth
its a lot of km./miles
sounds like the third /overdrive part of the transmission
is slipping or worn

93 Chevy, gear shift **** between 2nd and 3rd
Remove the fluid - get a good flash light - get a very long screw driver - put the screw driver into the drain hole and force the transmission out of gear. Then remove the Transmission and replace or repair. Cheaper to replace. You bent the forks on the shift mechanism.

Hi:

Your transmission has 3 shift rails...
1st - 2nd
3rd -4th
5th- Reverse

If your 3rd gear doesn't work , you have an internal transmission problem, such as a syncronizer, or similar fail... There is not much you can fix, without removeing the transmission.

Transmission jumps from 2nd to 3rd!
have you taken it to transmission shop? if not there are clutch packs in the trans that can cause that problem and might need to be replaced also your car is equipped with a transmission computer and may have problem there have it read with scanner from local parts store or shop find out whats wrong for sure its worth the money to know for sure!

Automatic transmission is stuck in 2nd gear (limp mode)
most newer vehicles  have transmission control modules,that go to a default of 2nd or 3rd gear when they go bad!  I had a 91 plymouth stuck in 3rd gear because of this module! could be your problem!    when mine went out, it smelled like something electrical burned inside the the passenger cabin! I would check all the electrical connections on the transmission first    good luck
