Gear shifting problems in Honda Prelude with Automatic transmission only when gearbox is cold

Hello I have problems with my gearbox. When engine and gearbox are cold the gearshifting is hard and uncomfortable. And also gear change from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd is late and durates little bit longer than when gearbox is warm. And also that gear change is hard. When gearbox gets normal temperature gear change is smooth. Can anybody help me solute my problems? I have also problem with direction change. When I change it from P to D4 and D4 to R and invert it shakes car body. I hope I have problem with Solenoids Valves. But which one and where is it located in my gearbox. My gearbox has code M6HA Best regards

While just change ATF oil or CVT oil in transmission & old filter too. your car problem will be solve....

Sorry, but I did change ATF-Z1 OEM HONDA oil in gearbox. Oil filter is in the gearbox and I cannot change it before unmounted gearbox from a car.

the neutral safty switch tells the comp. what gear is in. when its not working the light wont move and the car will not go threw the gears prop. the switch is nown to go out. it is located on the tranny or down under the shifter

you need to replace clutch pack for that gear can be ordered seperately from parts store or dealer if you want to save money call peach street auto recycling at 1800-365-2341 for a warrantied used one! also might be time for change trans filter and fluid filter could be slightly clogged but I lean towards clutch pack I replace these alot on Hondas

Has anyone change the transmission fluid and used anything other than Honda ATF-Z1. If so, have the fluid/filter changed in this car and use only Honda Fluid. This is the only fluid that you can use in a Honda. Even if you have used the correct fluid an fluid/filter change may help. If that is not the case then I suggest you seek out a trusted professional.

Hello, My 1994 BMW 740i is not shifting into 5th gear on automatic mode, it happens after it being driven for while and is warm, when cold it shifts gear till 5th gear normally, when it gets stuck on 4th...

IMO it's more likely that you have the wrong grade of ATF. It's very important to have the correct grade. The following site shows this:

each car manufacturer has recommended grades of Automatic Transmission Fluid, BMW is no exception. the following website for BMWs may bring you more accurate data:

Apparently CTSC is the supplier for BMWs via the web.
Generally auto gearboxes have drain plugs and filler plugs to enable oil change in routine maintenance. But I would definately go back to the garage where you had the last service and ask politely about the grade of ATF used, before considering an 'oil change'.

Automatic Transmition Shifting Problem when Engine is cold

The auto was notorious for clutch pack failure. Tolerances were tight in the inner workings and this caused inadequate oil flow and poor cooling. Sooner or later the auto transmissions fail. You could have the transmission rebuilt but that will cost a bit to do it so it wont break again. I might recomend going back to honda atf and changing the fluid again. If that does not work try an additive oil for the transmission. I had some sucess with the recomend product.

last resort, have it swapped to a manual transmission. This is a cheap alternative as f series transmissions from the accord can bolt up to the h22 and can be found cheap at the expense of higher gear ratios.

What does it mean when an automatic transmission slips gears?

hello. Here are some of the transmission slipping signs you should be looking for:

A delay of more than a second in shifting from the neutral to drive or reverse gear, could mean that there is a problem with the transmission. If on changing from a neutral or park position to the drive or reverse gear, the car does not immediately catch the gear and move forward or backward, then it could mean a problem in the transmission.
If you change gears, and you hear a sudden clunk or sudden jolt or shudder, then the shifting is not smooth and there could be a problem with the gearbox.
If the engine rpm keeps increasing but there is no increase in the speed, then it could be a sign of the transmission slipping.
Another one of the transmission slipping signs is oil or automatic transmission fluid (ATF) leakage. This could damage the transmission.
If your car has suddenly started sounding noisy, then it could also be because of a problem in the gearbox.
Most automatic transmission systems, nowadays, have a check engine light or an OD light, which flashes if there is a problem with the engine. You will need a code reader to diagnose the problem by reading the code.

Tiptronic engage/disengage when hot

You clutch packs have worn out and the not shifting properly when hot confirms this, you may check transmission line pressure, hopefully I am wrong but most likely you need a total transmission rebuild. and a front wheel drive automatic is the most expensive rebuild out there.

98 Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC Auto-Tiptronic Transmission Problems

I own a 1999 Honda Prelude base model with a automatic sequential tiptronic trans. If your willing to try a couple of things you might get lucky a save your trans. If my suggestions doesn't help your trans
performance then it time to pull out the pocket book. Drain the trans
fluid. Flush the cooler. Remove the 2 solenoid right by the starter motor. Most likely the 2 metal screens are plugged up. Clean them up with parts cleaner. Then wire the solenoids to a battery so when you spray into them with the parts cleaner you can energize the solenoids while spraying cleaner into the 2 ports. The purpose of this is to free up anything that could be making the solenoids stick. Reassemble the
solenoids back onto the trans. Fill the trans with 3 Qts. of OEM Honda fluid. Run the gears through the gears. Then drain that fluid. Do this one more cycle. On the last fill pour a bootle of Lube Guard Additive to condtion the fluid. Good Luck

Prelude 2.2 vti W reg auto automatic tiptronic gearbox slipping

Hi there. Although the Dealer has changed the oil, did they do a 'Stall Test' whilst the gearbox was cold and again when at normal running temperture? If not, that's what they must do firstly. This will identify whether you have a slipping clutch/s. The Honda autobox also includes what is known as accumulators - these control how each clutch is engaged during acceleration. For example, if you are accelerating slighly/smoothly, you want each gear to be engaged gently and smoothly, whereas, when accelerating hard, you need the gear engaged quickly and hard to aviod clutch slippage. Thus, the fact that you are experiencing a hard engagement might mean that an accumulator/s is seized. If that's the case, it will mean that the autobox will need stripping, cleaning and be checked for worn components. Hope this helps, Scottech.

check 1st 2nd shift solenoid (lift it of the box check passage way is clear ) use genuine fluid i cant strees this enough (9 years working on hondas taught me ) it works so many problems solved with a simple oil change
