Check your timing belt by carefully removing the timing belt pulley cover to the left of the valve cover. The valve cover houses the spark plugs. You should be able to flash a flashlight down and see your timing belt. Most likely, you have a timing belt going, or a shaving stuck in your VCT solenoid. I'm guessing the belt is worn and has slipped a tooth or two. I would take caution driving it as it's been disputed that it could be an interference engine, and you could do serious damage to your vehicle.

SOURCE: 98 Ford Contour CNG does not switch to CNG, stays on gasoline
The older CNG Contours are prone to "compuvalve" failure. The compuvalve is the system that injects natural gas into the engine instead of gasoline. If the unit dies, your CNG light will not come on, and the car will default to gasoline.
You could check and see if the CNG fuses are blown. They are located on the driver side strut tower brace, between the strut tower and the power brake booster.
The fuses are covered with a black rubber boot, that is secured with a small black ziptie. Cut the ziptie and you shoud find 2 fuses. These are the fuses for the CNG system and compuvalve.

These codes are dealer specific. Please call you local dealer and they will give you the exact meaning.
For now I think you may find the code needs to be verified.
Here is my advice.
Have the reading done by - Auto Zone and also Advance Auto all over again. If the codes match
Take down the vin# - call the dealer and tell them the code. Ask them what it means and - -ask if your vin# brings up and recalls or service needs as issued by the factory. Some things never go out of date.
One last this - your header here says 1995 -your note says 1998. You need to sort that out as well.
