My check engine light is on and when I went to Autozone to check the diagnostic codes it read P1404 & P0444. short explanation was P1404 manufacturer control Aux. emission controls. P0444 Evap emissions control system purge valve open. What does this mean and how do I correct the problems, and where are the problems located ?
The purge valve i believe is located near your gas tank unless theyve moved it i should look like a little canister cyclinder shaped. both codes could be set off by the same problem. try replacing the valve.
2003 kia spectra missing on both cylinders that do not have coil directly onto plug. purged air, new fuel filter, new plugs, new wires, new coils ;( I am ready to pull hair out!! what do these 2 cylinders/fuel injectors have in common? checked fuses...ok
The information below was complied by me, it explains what causes the check engine light to come on and the process of finding the cause.
When the Check Engine light is turned on, the computer control unit (called the PCM) has sensed a fault in the electronic controls and monitors of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 200 possible faults that turn the Check Engine light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen and Autozone parts stores (USA only) do this testing for free.
P0404....Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit Range/Performance
the P1404 code doesnt exist in the kia data codes but this one is in the generic codes and if its correct its showing a fault with the EGR valve but i would take it to a kia garage if you have been able to read the codes correctly
