I have a 93 volvo 850, it starts fine, but going down the road it chugs and tries to stall, I have to keep my foot on gas and brake to keep it from stalling at stops..My Husband replaced the fuel filter and cap and rotor last night and it still does it.I called auto zone about scanning it but they only scan 96 and up.My Husband is a auto tech but this car has him stumped.Any idea what the part would cost to fix it?? Thanks from NY

It definitely sound like a fuel starvation problem. Your hubby is on the right course by changing out the fuel filter. If the injectors are not getting enough fuel pressure from the fuel pump it could cause the condition you discribed. A new pump is fairly pricey but you could get one at a junk yard for far less.

When you press on the gas when the truck is running, does it rev up?

Did it die while driving down the road (foot on the accelerator) or when idle? - If so, try cranking it and get your RPMs up to 1500-2000 RPMs and put it in drive (with your other foot on the brake). See if it will continue running if you never take your foot off the gas.

My 95 VOlvo 850 Tubo keeps stalling on me!
It's the solinoid. It's placed alongside the distributor. A coil about 1" around, and 2" long loosen, disconect the cable and lead coming out of it, repalce, and it will run fine then.

Sounds like your vacuum assist brakes diaghram has sprung a leak. Pull the hose to the assist and plug it with a bolt or something. Then try it.

If you have not already replaced the idle control valve then remove it and soak it in brake cleaner for about 30 minutes to remove any oil residue which may prevent it from operating correctly.Before you refit it dry it fully with a clean lint free cloth.

for the cheapest TEMPORARY solution get some fuel injector cleaner and get on the gas fo about 5 mile at like 100 - 120 miles an hour thats what idid to mine last week hasnt wanted to die out since. good luck.
