Speedometer and gas gauge are giving false readings!

My speedometer on my 1998 Isuzu Rodeo works at times but on other occassions it stays on zero while I am driving. My gas gauge at times when the speedometer is on zero, gives a false reading and moves up and down a few notches at times. I am unsure of why this could be happening, please help me if you can.

IT SURE SOUND TO ME LIKE YOU ARE MISSING A GROUND TO THESE GAUGES. THIS WILL BE TOUGH TO LOCATE WITHOUT A SCHEMATIC DRAWING TO HELP YOU. YOU MAY BE ABLE TO LOOK UNDER THE DASH FOR A LOOSE WIRE. YOU CAN ALSO CHECK THE FUSE PANEL FOR THE FUSE MARKED GAUGES TO SEE IF IT IS MAKING GOOD CONTACT. HOPE THIS HELPS. BEST OF LUCK. LET ME KNOW PLEASE. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA!!!!!!!!!!!!

Both speedometer and gas gauge not working properly. Gas gauge giving readings all over the dial and speedometer starts to give proper speed then it reduces speed on meter until reading zero even though...

Hello: To correct this condition you will have to replace the cluster. After replacement the mileage and engine hours will have to be reset then the cluster will have to be programmed to your truck.

Speedometer does not work. I have a 95 Rodeo, 3.2 six cylinder, 4X4, I replaced the speed sensor in the rear and still not working...Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Take out the speedometer gear and hook it to a cordless dril (electric drills might spin it too fast). Turn the ignition to the "on" position, but do not start the car. Have someone watch the speedometer from inside the vehicle as you spin it.

If the speedometer gauge works and stays constant, then you know your problem is with the drive gear or the worm gear on the inside of the transmission.

If it doesn't work, then you know that there is an electrical issue with the speed sensor circuit or something in the gauge cluster is broken.

I had a problem in my Explorer with the speedometer gauge jumping around (and that really messes with teh 4WD system). I chased it for a couple of weeks only to find out that the nut that secures the worm gear for the speedometer in the transmission was loose and devoured the drive gear.
