99 jeep cherokee Blinker problem

I just replaced the flasher unit because the blinkers would stay on or act like hazards.

Now with the new flasher unit installed, they are acting like hazards (3 blinkers on in unison, the only blinker not flashing is the front passanger).

Please help as this is making me nuts.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,I think before replacing anything else you should give that hazard switch a good workout. The switch doesn't get get used very often and the contacts get corroded and can upset the indicators.Good Luck.

94 grand cherokee laredo rear blinkers/hazards

I'd start with a new flasher relay (they're cheap). If not that, then go to those lamp sockets and check for corrosion. I had issues similar w my 95 laredo...it was the flasher.

Any issues with hazards or blinker operation? Could be flasher relay going bad. It's generally attached to the button you push to activate flashers.

TURN SIGNAL, BRAKE & HAZARD LIGHTS

No Turn Signal Operation (blinker)The turn signal lights in your car are a basic electrical system that controls the front and rear blinker lights to alert the intended direction of the vehicle. We have listed some of the most common problems and repair troubleshooting tips below:
Troubleshooting Procedure
To start troubleshooting this problem:
  • Turn the key to the on position (do not start engine)
  • Inspect the system fuse located in the fuse panel and replace if needed. If you cannot find the location of the blinker fuse consult your owner's manual or an online repair manual
  • When a blinker flasher fails it can cause blinker lights to say on, not blink, or not go on at all. To test the blinker system flasher, remove the flasher unit and insert a jumper wire between the two terminals. If blinker stays on in both directions without blinking, replace the flasher. If you cannot find the location of the blinker flasher consult your owners manual or an online repair manual.

Have 2001 Cherokee, for some time the blinker will turn on but not blink. If you moved blinker handle up and down they would work, Now it wont work at all. Dont know how to find fuse

likely your flasher unit was failing or you had a bulb out somewhere. Flasher should be on right side of steering column under dash yours could be a "combination flasher" Older models had flashers on fuse box under dash on left side.

Blinker wont work, but the hazards do

There are two thermal flashers one for the Hazard Warning Lights and one for the Turn signal lights. It could be the flasher for the turn signals.

Blinker dont work flasher and other lights work

The turn signals don't work, but the emergency flashers do? If that's the case, replace the flasher, you have 2 flashers, one for emergency (hazard) flasher, and one for the turn signals. It should be on the fuse block under the dash.

YJ Blinker Relay

Hi there,

Both the hazard and the blinker flashers are located on the fuse panel. They pull straight out.

When both turn signals fail, the cause may be a blown fuse, a faulty flasher, a broken turn signal switch or a bad connection.

When you try the turn signals, do they light up and not blink?
-If so, probably the flasher unit.

When you try the turn signals, does nothing happen?
-Check the fuse

Let me know if the problem continues after replacing the flasher.

Mike
