2003 Dodge Durango makes a funny noise when the ignition is turned both off and on. Sounds kind of like an annoying hum. Stops after a couple of seconds.
the louder it gets, the more concern I would have. Are you getting any check engine lights??? May want to swing into Autozone or someone similar. they will scan for free. We may get something out of that. the louder it gets, the more concern I would have. Are you getting any check engine lights??? Check the transmission fluid level and condition. If the fluid level is off, correct it and then see what happens with the noise. If the fluid is discolored you should change the fluid and filter as a plugged filter can cause a noise.
check side carrier bearings in the diff i have rreplace a lot of them for the same noise thats all you have to do remove the diff cover remove end caps and see if the bearings are pitted if so replace
i would check to see if there is a heat shield, or protective shield in the area that you described, that might be loose or need tightening up, this could be the vibrating or rattling , when the engine is in park, due to the higher rpm's, also check to see if transmission mounts are tight.
Most likely it is the RH front wheel bearings. CV Joints don't usually make any noise until you turn a rather sharp corner. I would advise you to replace the bearings and seals in both front wheels if the bearings are in fact noisy. Jack up the front and spin each wheel, you'll soon hear the sound of rumbling bearings.
if you have to spay the belt to get it to stop then the belt is most likly streched or bad. take the belt off and turn all the free spinng pullys alt, power steering,a/c,ect if all spin good with no horible sounds then replace the belt , if any turn hard then this is what the problem is.but im betting it's the belt
Sounds like more than one problem. As for the heating issue could be a (weak) water pump.If the miles are pretty high it wouldnt be a bad idea to service the tranny either. My 5.9L dodge shifted funny too. I changed the fluid and the screen. Also put a little sea foam in it.
You have a hub/wheel bearing going out. You need to jack up the vehicle on each side. Grab the top and bottom of the wheel and try to move it in/out at the top and bottom. If this does not work then roll the wheel as fast as you can and see if you can hear which one it is. Good Luck.
I thought it may be the fuel pump, but why is it so loud. It wasn't always this loud. Does it need replaced or just ignored?
