Runs great then will stall at any speed. Takes 15 minutes to an hour plus to restart. After restart will run ok or stall out again in a few miles. Has a 2 year old fuel pump, Inertia is in down pos

Some times runs well for a week or more. Then will have periods of stalling while driving at any speed. Takes 15 minutes to hours to restart. At restart will run for short periods with same stalling and starting issues. Live in the Central Valley of California, use Arco gas.

There are several possibilities, but based on how you described the symptoms I suggest a profile igniton pickup. On these systems the failure usually begins as dropping a cylinder occasionally, like a misfire, mostly during high underhood temperatures, will manifest into stalling and finally into a stall with no resart condition. Symptoms are most likely to occur in summer. The pickup is inside the distributor and the distributor must be disassembled to install it,the trickiest part being the removal and installation of the distributor drive gear. They are iron and easily broken. The simplest solution is another distributor. The ignition modules typically do not fail in this manner, but this is classic for the pickup coil. A code for loss of pip signal should be present, it is possible for a code to not be present, though very unlikely. Having worked on these systems for years this would be my first area of diagnosis.

have vehicle scanned if check engine light is on. you can go to auto-zone etc. they will scan for problem codes with a OBD-II tester for free as long as light is on. it sounds like a bad crank position sensor or cam sensor. get it scanned. have a good day !!

SOURCE: motor stalls when driving then starts and stalls right away.

Replace the distributor's magnetic pickup located inside the distributor surrounding the distributor shaft, the only other thing thankfully on this ignition system if memory serves me on the f 150 straight six 300 cu inch is the dura spark ignition control box, of course do the obvious tune up parts replacement dist.cap rotor, plug , sparkplugs before spending the $40.00 - $50.00 bucks on the dist.. pick up, you may have a weak a fuel pump check for adequate fuel pressure at carb 7 - 10 lbs.

SOURCE: Stalling

Possibly faulty ignition module is the problem, stalls when engine is hot when you sit for a while it cools off and runs again until it heats up again, those are usually the symptoms of a bad ignition module and after a while it may give out all together and not run at all, usually if the module is at fault it shuts down the fuel pump so the engine don't load up with fuel, do to when engine continuously cranks over the injectors never stop squirting fuel and flood the engine do to lack of spark which is produced by the module, this could possibly be your problem.

Try changing or switching out the distributor. Most likely getting hot and shuts down. Does it crank but no start whenever it stops? May only start when it cools down again.

Stalling problems

By installing a fuel pressure gauge on service port on injection rail then drive car if dies pressure should be zero normal range 36-45 psi to keep the engine running low pressure could be stuck open pressure regulator. if pressure stays then you have eliminated fuel and move on to electrical problems such as spark.

Sounds like the ignition module on the fender.
You would need to know if you are missing spark to the plugs when it quits running. The carb would not run out of fuel then suddenly have fuel again.
