Fuel smell in camaro

I have chevy camaro 97 z28 5.7L & usually Im smelling a fuel smell from outside the car. I tried to know the source of this smell & I found that its coming from the fuel tank refilling cap. full fuel tank will ride me for only 200 mile & I found on internet that the full fuel for my car will ride around 250 mile. so I want to know is this fuel consumption for my car is normal?? why this smell coming? is there a problem in the cap itself?? by the way I live in dubai & that's mean A/C working always because of the wheather & a lot of traffic

50 miles reduction in the conditions mentioned means that your economy is about right
there is a small hose back from the tank to under the cap to release air trapped when filling
koses can get loose , crack or break
tank sender units gaskets can break down
look around the tank area for the leak /smell
a damp patch in the dust is a good give away

SOURCE: overheating prob in chevy camaro z28 97

Check for obstruction in front of radiator/condenser that would cause loss of airflow through the core.Sometimes these cores get clogged with bugs or debris and airflow is deminished. The reason for overheat with A/C on is that the condenser adds to the heat in front of the radiator and if there is not enough airflow then the engine also runs hot because radiator can not be cooled sufficiently.
hope this helps

SOURCE: fuel smell

ok the fuel in your tank is expanding and vaporising constantly, because you live in such a warm climate it pressurises the tank too much and the cap vents, you could try a new cap, but honestly unless you are feeling light headded when you pull up to the lights cause of all the fumes i wouldnt worry, just dont block the breather youll pop your tank.

SOURCE: overheating

  1. There are many different reasons that can cause an engine overheat, but they all have in common three aspects. The three aspects which all engine overheat factors have in common are that they cause that the heating system can not get rid of heat, they cause a loss of coolant or they directly cause too much heat in the engine.
  2. One first problem which might be the cause of an engine overheat is a problem with the radiator cap and the pressure it holds. If the radiator cap does not hold pressure correctly then coolant could boil and therefore the engine would overheat. Another reason might be caused by thermostat failures; it is recommendable that you check it.
  3. The car engine might also overheat due to coolant leaks such as those from the radiator, the hoses, the water pump, the freeze plugs or any others. Also, problems in the water pump could be the cause and therefore you should check it and replace it in case it is needed.
  4. Some other reasons by which the car engine could overheat are problems in the exhaust system which you can discover by checking vacuum readings, pipes and converter. Besides, you should also make sure that the radiator hose has not collapsed and the ignition timing is working properly.
  5. You should also check the electric cooling fan by making sure that the fan motor, the relay and temperature are correct or otherwise it could cause the engine to overheat. Besides this, you should also check the radiator in case there are any debris in it as well as you should check its hose in case it has collapsed.
  6. It is also recommendable that you check the antifreeze concentration which should be 50/50 in order to be correct, otherwise it could cause the car engine to overheat. If you do not find why your engine does overheat, you should ask a mechanic or an expert for advice. You should not try to fix this if you do not have the proper tools and general car knowledge necessary for it.

Caant find the fuel leak in my 1994 chevy S 10

Is the fuel actually leaking to the ground or do you just smell fuel? If it's actually leaking, then you need to determine what is in area where the leak occurs and carefully inspect everything above that area. If you're not quite sure where under the vehicle the leak is coming from, place a piece of paper or cardboard under the parked truck and wait for the drip, then look up from that same area while wearing safety glasses at a minimum. If you just smell fuel but don't actually see a leak, then try to determine if the smell is stronger from the front or rear of the vehicle. If stronger in the rear, it could be a rust hole in the fuel filler tube, a hole in the fuel tank, a rusty fuel line, etc.

There are also combustible gas leak detectors which could help you pinpoint the source of the leak if you are patient enough and the leak is not too large. You'd want to use that with the vehicle parked outside though so there is plenty of air circulating around and underneath the truck.

1995 toyota corolla smells like gas after its been parked?

Possible fuel tank leak. Is the smell inside the car? If so there is an inspection cover under the back seat. If outside mist likely the fuel tank filler neck us rusted and leaking.

Check under the hood on the side of the fuel rail, the fuel pressure regulator value, this is a common problem.

Smell of burning oil out of heater vents

Have you checked under the hood,Mark? The heater commonly pulls outside air thru the vents and can get air coming up from the engine,so I'd look for a smell outside the car, under the hood.Let me know what you find.
You can alleviate it some by using the recycle air button on your heater, but you need to find the source quickly,so you don't have a fire. don-ohio (:^)

I have a 97, it starts, but when it wrams up it starts back firing and has a storong gas smell? idk what way to turn

If you are backfiring you should check your firing order... If you have had your Plugs and wires replaced recently then it may have been installed wrong.. also try changing your fuel filter.. or changing the spark plugs

Gas Smell when heater turned on

When the heater is turned on, it is drawing in air from the cowl at the bottom of the windshield outside the car. If your smelling gas when you turn it on, it would suggest to me that there may be a fuel leak under the hood. A lot of Honda's have the fuel filter under the hood against the firewall. Open the hood, and see if the gas smell is any stronger, or any gas smell at all for that matter. I would strongly recommend getting the car checked as soon as possible, if you can find the source of the smell yourself.

I have a 1991 Chevy Camaro rs, and when i use the heating either defrosting windshields or just for heat, i can smell some kind of fumes coming from the heat?

Hi,
My name is Chuck and I'd like to help you figure this out. The smell you have,is it a sweat smell? When you turn on the defroster, does steam form on the inside on the glass?Have you noticed the cooling system level going down? Or is the floor wet on the passenger side?If you are experiencing any or all of this, you have a leaking heater core.
Let me know if this is what you are experiencing and if you want information on how to replace it. Thanks,Chuck
