Starts but dies when engine warms up

Im having issues with my 92 eagle talon. i start my car in the morning cold wait for oil to go through then drive. as my engine gets warm my check engine light comes on stays on and/or goes off after awhile. if it stays on when i have reached my destination i turn off my car then try to restart my car it starts for about a good 1 minute then engine dies. i would have to wait for my engine to cool down a bit then it would start fine. if my check engine light goes off when i reach my destination i can restart my car just fine. what is the problem? do you know. i hope you do. thanks for reading

Ok, i have a 93 mitsubishi eclipse, so same motor as mine. I had a similar problem after replacing my battery. In removing the intake tube, it split for about 3 inches on the underside of the tube, allowing air to bypass the air intake sensor ( the place where the tube connects to the filter housing). Check this and let me know :)

should be a large rubber hose with ribs that goes down the left ide of the engine compartment unless you have an aftermarket inake or a turbo model. Try locating the plug that goes into the air cleaner housing and unplugging it. The engine should lope a little if the sensor is good

I have a 94 Eagle Talon ES with a 1.8 DOHC, 16 Valve, from a different vehicle (still a DSM) that is having problems starting when it's cold. I live in Wisconsin where temperatures can be very cold and...

Check temp sensor for ecm. Some cars have two temp sensors. One for the dash gauge and one for the computer. The computer may not know its cold out.... the computer richens the air fuel for cold temps as needed for proper start.

95 Eagle Talon stalls out after driving for a while. Has new ignition coil, plugs and wires, computer and fuel pump but I've been told it has something to do with the fuel line, any help?

I have the same year and stalls out occasionally in the beginning and now I can barely drive a quarter mile. All of the parts you listed I've tested and appear ok but what I'm thinking is not fuel because it would act crazy gasping for fuel but the camshaft and crankshaft sensors. If either of these are failing then the engine stops firing and dies. Also could be the alternator or battery. If not enough charge then the car could die. Mine dies like I turned the key off (and don't think it's ignition switch) and gauges all just drop to zero still sounds like engine is sort of on until I finally coast close to stopping and then dies and oil light comes on.

Car starts then instantly dies

there is an idle control valve and an air flow meter that should be checked.check all the wiring harness and connectors to the crank and cam sensors.

91-92 talon hard to nearly impossible to start

Just an idea, but I think that you are onto something with the temperature sensor. If overheating was the cause of the head gasket to go, then I would imagine it would've fried the temperature sensor also. That would make it nearly impossible to start. The sensor should be fairly cheap enough to replace. Probably wouldn't even through out a code. My Mother-in-Law had the same problem with her Saturn, changed the temp. sensor and BINGO. No more problem. You just have to make sure you get the computer temperature sensor, not the fan temp. sensor. There are 2 of them suckers. Believe it or not. Hope this can help "with your idea". Best wishes.

The INFAMOUS DSM Hot Start Problem

Here are a few things to try: 1) Block off your EGR valve. Sometimes these fail, and when they do, this is what happens.

2) Change your vaccum hoses, especially the one going to the fuel-pressure regulator. Sometimes this one leaks and creates problems for the FPR.

3) Change your plug wires. I'd use some MagnaCore wires. They're less $$$ than the stock ones, and they're 8.5mm opposed to the stock 6mm. The stock wires are no good, especially when raising the boost.

4) Clean your throttle body REALLY well. Make it spotless, including both sides of the throttle plate.

5) Clean out your intercooler. Do this by taking it out, dump about a gallon of gasoline into it, then shake it around and dump out. Repeat process until gas coming out is clean.
