Car has an electrical jumping when accelerating?

Is your check engine light lit , flashing? Your vehicle has coil on plug ignition system , sounds like you have a bad ignition coil !

are there any codes or check engine light on? ford taurus are known for weak transmissions. check the transmission fluid level

The click you are hearing is most likely the start slenoid making contact, however you should short the large wires @ the solenoid to make certain the starter still doesn't run, if so try tapping the starter with a hammer to shift the comutator a litle and try to start. Even if it now starts the starter will continue to give you problems so the proper fix is change the starter

Torque converter is locking up, common for this model. My wife's is doing the same, just changed filter, fluid, and added Lucas trans fix. Hope this works for a little bit, 2000-2500 to fix this if not.

The Fluid would still be OK. You may need an Overhaul on that Tranny.

I would have the alternator and the battery tested for proper operation, Kragen auto and other chain auto part stores do this for free.
