Mostly going up hill surges or lurches. have replaced plugs ,wires, trans filter and fluid. i,ve been told could be vacuum leak . where do I start? Does surge on open road sometimes, Also replced fuel filter. Any help would be great. 2001 chevy malibu 3.1L
A maf sensor will cause this also, you can go to any auto parts store and buy the maf sensor spray. follow directions on can. make sure air filter is clean also. my car did the same thing and after I cleaned the maf sensor it has been fine. 3.1 engine, to check sensor, just unplug it and try it on hills or highway. the car will not run very good and may stall out, but if the car does not surge, the maf is the problem.

Surging, Lurching or Jumping - Along with the other common symptoms of a bad CVT transmission, surging can be a sign of contaminated transmission fluid. When your transmission becomes too polluted or filled with debris over time, your vehicle might begin to accelerate, jerk, lurch
is this AFRICA KB240 , 2.4L petrol.?????????
we have no KB here in USA not a one. no parts, no books on it. (heck no WIKI on KB. ouch)
so it starts and drives ok/
but idle surges (up/down RPM) means PCM can not control IDLE RPM at all, and has many causes.
you can drive it fast and even up hills or at WOT.?
but only stopping at say a stop sign the engine surges.
well lets work that 1 problem if is just 1.
EGR struck open, is common. (if has one)
IAC stuck the idle air controls valve is stuck and needs cleaning, of gunk off it
thermostat not bad, 180F (82c) is good but 150 is bad. hot normal engine.
VVT failing . if has VVT. (cam timing variable)
VVT engine most times have no EGR valve.
spark wires bad, seen on new cars with no COPS.
seen with COIL packs and 4 HV logs and 4 HV wires
and HV wires bad, or just one.
as I said no books here on KB at all. zero.
as in service manuals.

Will not take gas going up a hill but will maintain speed at 55 mph. ... Want to do a diagnostic test on my 1997 F250 with 460 engine. ... only get to about 40 miles an hour if i push it the engine acts like its running out of gas, thank you .... The truck hesitates on acceleration, while driving on flat surface is fine, however climbing ...
First check for any codes, then test vacuum with a good vac guage. When reving engine the vacuum should drop and then climb back up. Check for vacume leaks by spraying carb cleaner at any vacume hoses and intake areas but not at air filter.
then also check compression as well as look at spark plugs to see that they are all tan and no differences in any one. Go to YouTube and search for how to test engine with a vacuum gauge.
Most any problem with an engine can be diagnosed with a vacuums gauge but do use a second test method as you have learned replacing parts hoping to fix a problem is costly.
you start by having the fault codes read
The ECM records all faulty sensors and by reading the codes you save money by not replacing perfectly good parts
At this point it indicates a problem with the EVAP system that is not venting the tank properly but that is a guess from your statement
This sounds like you may correct in saying a misfire. this sounds like a bad coil that looses power under a load. Is check engine light on? If the light is on or not go to an auto parts store like auto zone.At auto zone they will scan the computer free of charge and give you a print out of any codes. the computer will store code or codes when it detects a problem. A bad coil will make it store a code or should. see if there are any misfire codes, this code will help pin point the bad coil. if there are codes write me back and give me the code. I think this car has coil over plug ignition system. this just means instead of sparkplug wires the coil sits right on the top of the plug. Also replace spark plugs if it has been a while since they have been replaced. check air filter too. a matter of fact if you have over 70,000 miles on car tune it up. plugs, furl filter if it has one, air filter and pvc valve and clean throtle body. Okay, just checked it out, this car if a 1.6 engine then does have a coil but not on spark plug, rather coil with sparkplug wires going to plugs. try replacing spark plug wires and plugs first and if problem remains then replace the coil. let me know the results. good day
I have the same exact problem that just started immediately AFTER I got a tranny service where they changed the Trans Fluid, Trans Filter, Fuel Filter. Took it back and they say nothing is wrong with it. Took it to the dealer thinking I could get some REAL answers... they just told me to replace spark plugs, wiring & coil, for $900. Only studders when quickly accelerating above 40mph. I've check other forums, they say to clean the Mass Air Flow sensor. Haven't tried it yet. This seems the easiest before replacing spark plugs. Any other suggestions anyone?? Please.....
what are the trouble codes?
