Very common problem on fords, they have the door ajar sensors in the door right at the latch (poor design). You need to figure out which door is causing the problem, push all the doors closed when they are already closed, or tapping the latch area and see if the light goes out. Once you know which door ajar switch/sensor is faulty, you need to order it and replace it.
Another common problem is wiring breaking/cracking where the door is hinged to the body, you will see a rubber boot (this boot holds all the wiring that goes to your door ie power windows, locks, and any lights in or outside the door) You can slide the boot back to inspect the wiring, or just grab and wiggle the whole thing and see if the light flashes or goes off as you wiggle.
I find most of the time it is the hatch on the back. I often will open the big hatch in the back close it then open and reclose the glass hatch and goes away.I find most of the time it is the hatch on the back. Do you see how complex these systems can be for someone that doesn't deal with these problems on a daily base's ! Check for codes an if there are any , doing the diagnostic's associated with it . Without doing the diagnostic's you could replace parts all day long an not fix the problem . 2002 2005 Ford Explorer Door Ajar Light Common Door Wiring Faults
courtesy light switch , is door ajar switch an it's part of the door lock actuator . Light on coming on ? Not going off ? The ajar switch is a input to the GEM module , fords BCM - body control module . The GEM will energize a relay to turn on the lights .
The GEM will illuminate the interior lamps when any door is open or ajar. The interior lamps are; the dome lamp, the rear cargo lamp, the door courtesy lamp and the side rail lamps. The courtesy lamps will shut off when the doors are closed and the illuminated entry feature is not active or when the vehicle speed is greater than 5 mph (8 km/h). The interior lamps will not be reactivated until the vehicle speed is less than 3 mph (5 km/h) and a new door open warning lamp switch is received.
The GEM controls the interior lamps illuminated entry function by activating the interior lamp relay.
Mite be a good idea to have it check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes .

This problem is caused by one of the door ajar sensing switches being defective, it is a common fault in Many Ford cars and light trucks. Each door has a switch and two at the tail gate door. The switches are attached to the side of the door latch and very hard to replace, since you would most likely have to detrim at least two doors to find the bad switch the most prudent thing to do is have the dealer scan the door ajar waring system, the scan will indicate exactly which switch has the problem.
there is a switch in each door that senses the door is open, it is called the door ajar/courtesy light switch (imagine that), they stick and have this problem, replace it.
