1966 Corvette Ignition, car stops running in 2-3 miles, just quit

Corvette is a stock 1966 427-425 HP Transistor Ignition car. Totally rebuilt 10 years ago. 2 years ago problem started. Car will start and run till warm and stop as if key was turned off. Will only start again if allowed to cool off. Just replaced ignition module, same problem. All other components of the ignition system harness, coil, wiring, distributor ignition switch etc. new or rebuilt at restoration 10 years ago. Naturally afraid to use vehicle.

The big red wire on the big connector on the firewall is the problem. You need to take it apart and clean the contacts. Another fix is to run the big red wire through the connector after you solder it together.

Are you sure it's the ignition, and not the fuel system? Could be fuel starvation, possibly due to clogged line or gas cap not venting.

There are good diagrams of your ignition system in the older chiltons shop manual.(likely you can find one on ebay cheap) Unlike the "modules" in use today, the circuits and components contain switching transistors, resistors and diodes that can be replaced. There are also cautions when testing these systems...overloading secondary can cause damage to the control unit. While servicing unit, you could find an old style HEI setup and stick it in there (only needs 12v feed from ignition switch to operate.

One of the symptoms of a faulty coil is that it will cut off when warm next time you run it just feel the coil if it is hot then that most probably is the problem also the resistor underneath the coil hope this helps regards Jim

1967 Chevrolet Corvette cold start problem

Yes your ignition timing could cause your car to start hard when it's cold but I think that you should check the choke setting on your carburetor. And since it's a older car i was just thinking that I doubt that you have upgraded to a HEI ignition and you are still running a breaker point distributor and your points could be worn or needs regapped. Either way i know that most people forget to set the dwell on points too which will cause the same problem the best way to set the dwell is with a oscilos

1987 corvette starts and runs smooth. 5 to 10 seconds later it shuts down like the key was turned off. Alt. tested and was bad. Replaced alt. Battery tested. Failed test and replaced it. Still quits...

This sounds like you may have an ignition module failing. Run it and when it dies, have some one crank it while you check for spark. If no spark is found, replace the ignition module. This piece runs about $75. Not too bad relatively. Let me know what you find.

Hard to start 1987 corvette

Mostly likely your injectors are going south. If stock your injectors are getting close to 24 years old. Rebuilt ones from FIC will cost around $200 and will make a huge difference. They also will pay you for your old ones or you can remove your old ones and send them in to be rebuilt.
